Plug-in P-spot perfection (well... almost)

The E-sensual bullet is a medium-sized bullet vibe with a twist: instead of feeding it batteries, you simply plug it into any USB port. The advantage of this is that you'll save money and never have to worry about batteries dying on you mid-session. Also, if you like to watch porn on your computer while you pleasure yourself, it's convenient. The disadvantage is that you're tethered to a USB port for the duration. Also, the cord may be too short for some users; it was for me. Fortunately, however, I have a USB extension cord and, if you find you need one, they're readily and cheaply available online or from your favorite computer supply shop.

I believe this toy is aimed primarily at women. I don't pretend to be an expert on female masturbation, but it would seem to be a good size and shape for clitoral stimulation. Because the bullet is made of plastic, it's non-porous - but it's not sealed where the cord enters the bullet and therefore, it's not ideal for vaginal or anal insertion. However, while I can't recommend inserting it, that's exactly how I've used it, and for me it's worked GREAT. It has provided me with the most intense and satisfying P-spot stimulation of any vibrating toy I've tried so far.

The vibrations it produces are strong, significantly stronger than the other, battery-powered bullets I've used. With seven functions, there's plenty of variety, although I find changing the function setting during use can be a little annoying.

The bullet itself is made of plastic, which scores an eight out of ten on Eden's material safety scale. It's non-porous, phthalate-free, and can be cleaned easily with soap and water or isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. The bullet is NOT sealed where the cord enters it, so be careful not to let fluids enter the bullet there during use or cleaning, as this could potentially damage or destroy the bullet. Which would suck.

I chose the silver-colored bullet, which has a smooth texture. The other option, black, has a polyurethane (PU) coating and a more velvety texture. In retrospect, I wish I'd chosen the black one, not because of the texture, but because of its more discreet appearance. Also, other reviewers who've said they hold the bullet during use have reported that it's a little tricky to grip because of the intensity of the vibrations; they've said the less-smooth texture of the black bullet helps with that.

There's a seam in the middle of bullet which I don't notice at all during use. I haven't detected even the slightest smell or taste from the bullet. Yes, in the interest of journalistic excellence, I did, in fact, taste the bullet (after cleaning but before use)!

The bullet connects to any USB port via a 42-inch power cord, which is smooth plastic. The controller, which is situated eight inches from the bullet along the power cord, is made of PU-coated plastic.

The bullet is a simple oval shape, more like a rugby ball than an American football. It's two inches long and one inch in diameter, with rounded ends.

Compared to my other two bullets, I like the size and shape of the E-sensual bullet the best. It's a nice "medium" size and, while I can't recommend insertion, I can report that I find it easier to insert than my larger remote-controlled egg and that, once inserted, it gives a more satisfyingly substantial sensation than my smaller bullet.

It's fairly discreet, especially the "stealth black" version. Next to other computer peripherals, even the silver version probably wouldn't stand out as an obvious sex toy - except to sex toy aficionados, who will likely recognize the classic "silver bullet" shape for what it is.

The E-sensual bullet features seven vibration settings, which are controlled by a simple module with two arrows. This controller module is situated about eight inches from the bullet along the power cord. I found the controls easy to figure out.

Press the arrow pointing toward the USB plug end once, and the bullet starts vibrating. This is the "low" setting; it's about as strong as the highest setting on either of my other two bullets. Press this arrow again, and the vibration gets more intense; this is the "medium" setting. Press again for "high", which is quite strong. It's not as strong as a Hitachi Magic Wand's highest setting, but for a bullet vibe, it's surprisingly intense.

The next three settings are different pulsing vibrations. The first of these is a medium-medium-high repeating pulse; the next is a quick repeating on-off pulsing of the medium setting; and the next after that is a sort of "heartbeat" of low-medium in quick succession. The final setting is a "crescendo" from low to high, which takes about four seconds before starting again from low. This last setting is, so far, my favorite. It's a little annoying to have to cycle through all the other settings to get to it, but only a little.

Pressing the arrow pointing toward the bullet stops the vibrations. I also discovered, by accident, that removing the USB cord from the USB port will cut off the power - fortunately, without causing any harm to either the toy or the computer.

Cal Exotics describes this toy as "Plug and Play" and "USB 2 Compatible," which might lead you to believe it uses some software, or that you would need to wait for a "Safe to Remove Hardware" message before unplugging it. Nope! All it draws from your computer is electrical power.

In fact, if you have another USB power source, you won't need a computer at all. I have a USB wall plug and found that the E-sensual bullet works fine with that.

When I use the E-sensual bullet with my computer, I find the extension cord is useful. I like to hump my masturbation sleeve while watching porn on my computer and without the extension cord, I found the toy's 42-inch USB cable left me at the end of my rope (so to speak). With the extension cord, I'm a happy humper!

When I have the bullet inserted, it's pretty quiet (again - insertion is NOT recommended, because the bullet's not sealed where the cord goes in). When used externally, the bullet is fairly loud, especially on the higher settings. It can be heard through doors and possibly through walls, if they're thin.

This is easy to take care of. Simply wash it with soap and water when you're done. You can also disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol. Be careful, whatever you use, not to allow any liquids to get into the bullet where the cord goes in. It's not sealed there, and liquids could damage or destroy the bullet. You should also be careful if you use lube with this toy. Plastic is compatible with water-, oil-, or silicone-based lubes - just be careful not to get them inside the bullet.

The same cautions apply to the controller. It's also not sealed and it could be damaged or destroyed if liquid gets inside.

I find the E-sensual bullet is easy to store. To prevent the cord from becoming a tangled mess, I've been using the cord keeper which was included. When I lose that, I'll just use a twist-tie. With the cord folded and secured, the toy is small and won't take up much space on your shelf, in your drawer or in your computer bag.

I'll let you be the judge of whether that's a suitably-discreet box for gifting! At a glance, it does look like an ordinary computer accessory - until you read the words "Silver Bullet," which are prominently on the front of the box, along with "7 Intense Functions of Vibration, Pulsation and Escalation!" Personally, I would NOT use this box for gifting, unless I were sure it would be opened in private.

I don't think the box is good for storage, either. I recycled it.

After giving the bullet a quick wash, I took it and my computer with me to the bedroom. I applied some water-based lube to myself and to the bullet and found I was able to anally insert the bullet easily and immediately. (In case you missed it the first three times, anal or vaginal insertion is NOT recommended.)
