“It will be great to really explore the sexuality of dance. We want to break a few boundaries and go where no TV show could. It's ‘Strictly’ but not as you've seen it before.”
That's what dancer Andrew Cuerden said of the new show he's working on with dance partner Hanna Haarala. Both of these dancers performed in Strictly Come Dancing, the BBC's version of Dancing with the Stars. And now they're working with an erotic dance program they're calling Strictly Erotica.
The event in November is going to have a fetish zone, a lap dancing club and a gay and lesbian entertainment stage. And the BBC is not happy. No really. They're not. And they've threatened a “David and Goliath” lawsuit.
“The BBC takes the protection of its brands extremely seriously and we believe that the association of our well established family programme with such an event is clearly damaging,” said their spokesperson. “We have written to the organisers of the event in question asking that they remove any reference to Strictly Come Dancing and the use of the glitter ball motif which is a well established part of the show's brand.”
The event's spokesperson, Dan Kirkby, says they're really not worried about it. Erotica will go on as planned.
