When asked how many sex toys you own, do you group in BDSM toys with that or do you consider them to be different?

Contributor: Sera Sera
Well, they are a bit different...and yet kind of the same. But I would consider them different.

I actually consider all of them my 'toys', just 'toys' generally. So sex toys and D/s toys fall under the same umbrella. Each are for privileged or private use.

Totally different stuff really, even stores differently in my house. You can find collars, cuffs, and locks all over, but toys stay in one area of the bedroom.

Nope, I don't count them in my toy number. It's more of an accessory if I had to put a label on it. Unless it has a toy purpose too like the pony plug for example, I don't lump it with toys.

I would group them all together.

yes, bdsm is different from sex for me as well. bdsm doesn't always have to be sexual.

i would totally say that kink/bdsm toys aren't sex toys.

I don't think of our BDSM gear as toys.

I see them seperately, but together if that makes any sense. My usual answer to this question is to simply flash a devious smile and say "plenty" or "would you like to find out?" if I'm interested in the person.

i lump them together because if a toy is involved then it is in some sort of kinky D/s or S/m or even B/d way. My vanilla sex life is pure sex, with no toys.

I would group them together in general but would probably give a more specific breakdown on the types of toys/items I had. BDSM items are a category unto themselves.

For me, it's all the same. Everything we use or do leads to sex. If the BDSM gear was a part of our lives out side of the bedroom I imagine I would feel differently though.

I don't group my bondage gear and whips as sex toys. But I guess in theory, they are. I'm just more comfy calling specifically vibrators and dildos my sex toys.

I tend to lump them together because we often use the standard vibes, plugs, etc. during play.

I *keep* them together, but I would consider them to be separate. Even here, for example, I have two wish lists for toys - one for regular sex toys, and another for BDSM toys.

I consider penetrating/penetrable toys to be sex toys, while I consider whips, floggers, masks, etc to be props, they would be grouped separate.

I tend to include BDSM gear in the "sex toys" category. Of course, I understand why it might seem strange to categorize certain things--rope, for instance--as "sex toys," but that seems to be more a problem with generalizing and categorizing than with BDSM gear being sex toys. If it's an inanimate object used to make sex more fun, I'll just go ahead and call it a sex toy (that just makes more sense to me than drawing arbitrary distinctions around what we call things).
