I hate it. A lot. Not only is it VERY poorly written, it's a very inaccurate portrayal of the BDSM community. Christian is abusive and psycho. Clearly not every individual who considers themselves a part of the BDSM community is batshit crazy like Christian, but the book makes it seem like that's true.

It's okay.

I'm not in the lifestyle - so I have no idea about that. I listened to it as a book on tape. My wife has heard that it's 'mommy porn' - I found it pretty tame other than a few spankings.

It's okay. I don't think the book speaks for everyone in that type of lifestyle though. Although, I'm sure *some* people might assume that everyone who enjoys BDSM has experienced some kind of emotional and/or physical trauma. :/

It's ok...I've read them to read them. However, I feel like the whole series is a bunch of sex scenes with little to no plot. It drives me nuts really.

Complete and utter garbage. Anything that started off as fanfiction for an already terrible series of books (Twilight) obviously can't be any good.

I haven't read or heard any of them, and from what other community members are saying I won't be anytime soon.

They are miserable books (I read all three!) and they do not portray BDSM accurately but they also aren't the worst thing I've seen.

I haven't read them but I've seen various skits with people reading them comically and it's pretty hilarious.

I haven't read them and don't plan on reading them. I've read just about every review on here about them and it just doesn't seem like the book for me.

To me this book is horrible, no offense to anyone who liked it, but it wasn't my cup of tea. I couldn't even get through it all.

I read all three of them and while I wasn't impressed with them, they did give me something new to read. I personally thought the story was just like any other romance novel but with added bdsm and a gratuitous amount of sex. I in no way think the 50 Fifty Shades of Grey is an accurate portrayal of the bdsm "lifestyle" and I can understand why some are offended by it.

Inaccurate, sure. Offensive? No.

I don't really love it, or hate it. I've read the first book, and I'm halfway through the second. I'll probably read the third, too. The story itself isn't terrible. The writing is awful, though.

I think that a lot of the problem with this book is that the hype surrounding it made it out to be this amazing kinky novel. In reality, it's really quite tame, so it will let several people down in that respect. On the other hand, several people read this book thinking it would give an accurate view of the BDSM lifestyle -- it won't, and it's not meant to. If you go into it just expecting to get a story and a little bit of sex, you probably won't be too let down -- if you can get through the dreadful writing.

I've never read it but from what I've heard and seen, it looks like a twilight for 'adults'. the cover is even similar and it's written as poorly.

It's pretty offensive to paint people who are into kink as only being that way because of childhood trauma, and that they can and should be fixed by pure, good love, because vanilla is the way that people really in love have sex. That's what I find offensive about it - Christian Grey is not a dom. He's a man who likes to hit women to vicariously punish his mother, and he found that BDSM is a socially acceptable excuse.

They're poorly written dreck, and it makes me sad that trees died to print the books.
