We have a little time left to do gift cards, so would you like to talk about gingerbread house shapes a little?

"A-frame" houses, as I said earlier, are the easiest when you're working with young kids. Anybody have any go-to shapes, or shapes to Definitely Avoid?

I usually go with the A-frame. I've never made one homemade, so pre-packaged is the only way I've done it.

The only time I ever made a gingerbread house was when I was in kindergarten and we did the a-frame shape.

My sister is making a "princess tower" she cooked the gingerbread around an upright pipe. It looks wonderful so far!

I like square shapes or two story houses.

The prepackaged ones I make are usually made of 6 pieces; 4 walls and two roof pieces.

My gingerbread house was a round lump with a chimney on it. Seriously...I'm gonna have to find it....

Remember that HUGE toy from the last Rumble Semi Finals? That thing could be very useful around the house, not just for security!

Home Defense. WARNING You will laugh!

We then make the roof out of one special ingredient each year.

Two story? Wow, you really know what you're doing!

Definitely remember to make a cardboard pattern so you know you're rolling out enough dough, whichever shape you choose

We have some gift cards to give away, as usual! One $10 GC will go to a correct answer of a trivia question, and the other four to answers of an icing question.

Everybody ready?

we use to make them with a rectangle base and then an a-frame top; i think the problem we had was the icing not being strong enough, or possibly not letting it dry enough

Yes! (Oh and thanks for the cardboard base tip above!)

The only helpful input I have is when you're putting the house together, make the frosting really thick and use lots of it. You can make the layer of frosting really thick on the inside of the house and it will help hold it together.

True, we started making the icing thicker and that always works!

It's important to make the icing out of powdered sugar and egg white, instead of milk like normal. The egg makes a much better "cement."

Milk does indeed make it runnier.

The first giftcard will go to the fourth person to answer:

What kind of bird is used in orchards to get rid of a snail pest?
