This is something I'm just starting to look into, and I'm basically just comparing what I want with what comes in the kits, and then comparing the prices of those and the separates...

Since you can't use the sale code with the kit, I just compare to see which way is the better deal. Often I get the separates because I don't want everything in the kit, on top of the sale/coupon being better.

I usually just buy kits as gifts I like to pick and choose my stuff
