#AskEden - User Added Photos: What is acceptable, and what isn't?

Contributor: Breas Breas
I know there was a discussion posted not that long ago about what we should do if we see images that are not even of the specific product that had been uploaded by members.

I've come across a few product pages where users have uploaded images of the Eden stock photos.... So basically, they have saved the stock photo from the product page, and uploaded it to the product page (assuming for points). This should be reported to someone, right?

I would send a message to JR, or really any member of the Eden staff. I've done this on a few occasions, when I've seen people uploading just random images.

I do think that just taking, and uploading the stock image should be banned, as doing so adds no value to the site.

That's what I'd assume as well but there hasn't been any rules established. It'd be nice to see a set of rules posted for this, that way there is no excuse for stock photo images being put on the page, etc. If there are rules posted, I hadn't seen them!

I would like to know though: What is the opinion on someone finding pics of a new addition on the manufacturer site that aren't available here and uploading? I've done it before, because the pictures that I uploaded here showed a more in depth view of the item.

I don't want to break the rules (even if there isn't officially a rule about it yet) but if I can upload a pic that will help someone see more about a new item I would love to help someone that way.

I've seen a number of these types of images uploaded already. I never seen an issue with that.. as long as they are from the manufacturers website (not a competitor site). But then again, I really have no idea what's acceptable other than photos that members take of the actual product.

I don't think it would be safe, because it would be like claiming ownership of the image to upload.
I would link to them in reviews freely though.

The potential issue is that even though the image is from the manufacturer's site, you may not have a legal right to use or repost the image. Clarification from EF would be helpful on this matter.

I emailed Jr about images being added to product pages which were stock photos from the manufacturer. He removed them, because it wasn't the manufacturer adding them. So, I do think they would be removed as long as you make him aware of it.

I've already reported useless pictures being uploaded on the Ghost dildo page 3 or 4 times....I'm sure Stormy is getting sick of me telling her about it....

WOW! That's getting bad. And it's all the same contributor. I've seen some useless pictures but...wow. There needs to be a way to flag pictures...

Holy smokes. That's a lot of photos. I'm surprised they haven't been taken down yet...

I agree that there should be a way to flag them.

They've been removed several times. Each time I've reported, Stormy has taken them down. I think it was up to 62 or something like that last time...

Yeah, next time you see it, let us know. This is obviously point farming and they'll be given a warning about it.

Oh wow, that's horrible. Uploading stock photos is one thing, but these aren't even stock photos of the same product.

This is just my guess on this matter.

I imagine that Eden would prefer we only post pictures that WE own the copyrights to. This would be only pictures we have personally taken. Just like in the video review program, Eden prefers you only use music or images in your video that are yours legally or that are in the public domain. Lots of people use current music that is technically illegal, but Eden doesn't police the website. They're not going through every video review & removing any that have copyrighted music or images... so you can get away with it in that sense. However, Eden has been very clear - if the reviewer ever gets in trouble over the copyright issue, Eden will not help them with it.

My guess is the User Added Photo situation is pretty similar. They'd prefer users add photos that are either in the public domain or taken by the actual user. They can't police every single product page to take down copyrighted images, but if a user gets into trouble over the issue, don't expect Eden to help you or back you up. Plus, any clearly farming use of the feature has been dealt with once they're aware of it.

Again, this is all a guess, but it is based on their video review guidelines... and there's quite a bit of overlap (legality-wise) between videos and photos.

See, I would think this as well. I only upload my own photos. I was just wondering if we should be reporting images that are EF stock photos uploaded by members, etc.

This pretty much sums it up. General rule of thumb when it comes to copyright stuff - if you didn't make it, don't use it. (e.g. If you didn't take the picture, don't use it.)

Thanks Indiglo!

Should we be reporting images that don't follow this? Also, who would be the person we should report this stuff to?

Please do. You can report them to any staffer or to partners@edenfantasys. com

With the amount of inappropriate images being submitted for points, a moderator approval system, in which points are not awarded until the photo is approved, would be beneficial... if difficult to implement. It would be very time- and resource-consuming for Eden staff, and would make uploading images for reviews as you write them a tricky process.

It's sad that people do this. Eden rewards people for uploading quality images because it helps to inform their customers on the products they offer. People blatantly doing it for points are truly the bad apples that could spoil this feature for everyone.
