The key is to be relaxed and go slowly with plenty of lube. And your anus is NOT going to be permanently stretched out; any stretching is very temporary. There should not be pain. I don't think anyone would do it if such damage was normal.

Most of the pictures you saw were probably from some hard core sessions and from people who have been stretching their assholes for years. Start small with anal exploration and work your way up from there. The anus will retract to its normal size (at least mine did and I was raped) so long as you don't continue to stretch it on the daily basis.
