What is your attitude when answering polls?

Contributor: Gone (LD29) Gone (LD29)
I'm having one of those days where I feel like my replies to different questions on the forum are too negative, and maybe I should stop until I have something more positive to say. I'm wondering if other people ever feel like this too.

So, what is your attitude when answering polls? Do you start to censor yourself if you find yourself saying a lot of "I don't do/like that" or "I'm not interested in this topic, not sure why I clicked on it" type answers?

I always answer polls I click on, whether my answer is positive or negative.

I don't click on polls that don't interest me & if I need to click it to see if it is something I'm interested in, say because of an ambiguous title, I don't answer unless it's of interest. So, I guess that weeds out a lot of what might be negative responses!

I don't think that there's anything wrong with being negative about a discussion topic as long as you're not attacking anyone (or their beliefs/likes/dislikes /etc) personally. My problem lies when I read people saying things like "Ew, that's disgusting and I can't believe anyone would do that." I mean, even if I were personally so disgusted by something that I just had to share, I would try to phrase it more like "that's a huge turn-off for me" or even "I find that disgusting, but..." If you're making it clear that whatever you're posting is your opinion, then I definitely won't be offended by it even if it's something like "I think that surreptitious comes off as really stupid/arrogant/stinky because..." If you're generalizing and aren't backing up what you have to say at all, then I'm generally less than impressed with negativity, though it does vary case to case.

("I think that surreptitious comes off as really arrogant because she basically just said that everyone should try and post like she does." I didn't mean that everyone has to be the same, just that we should strive for some tact and try to explain what we mean.)

I only respond to polls that interest me and I answer honestly. Sometimes that happens to be a negative response.

I completely agree, and I would never intentionally attack someone else's view on a topic. I just find that I have days where I'm saying a lot of "no" in my responses, with regard to my own experiences.

I'm honest, but start to pull back if I feel I'm getting too negative for the day.

I just went through this the last couple of weeks because I was so down and stressed. After realizing it was affecting my forum responses I backed of and just answered the lighter questions and those that weren't so personal to me.

The forum's are so informative to me and I learn so much and want to participate no matter how I feel. I'd like to blame it on my biorythms but truth be told I've hand unresolved issues on my mind.

Very good question, thanks for asking it!

I do not answer all polls I click on. Some have public voting so I do not always vote in those. I also do not vote if it doesn't really apply to me or I do not have anything constructive to add to the discussion.

I don't answer all the polls. If there isn't an answer or the question doesn't really fit me, I'll just skip it

I don't think that I change my view based on if I need to answer negatively or positively. I just avoid ones that are too complicated or don't interest me.

Try and be as honest as possible, no matter if it's positive or negative.

I usually only click on polls I might find interesting or a learning experience. I answer them honestly and when it is called for will explain my answer in a post. I have days when I am overly positive and others when I am negative but try not to let that affect my answers too much.

If I click a post, I plan on answering. There has only been one time I answered, but could not comment because someone else's reply actually hit a nerve and angered me. I was going to reply, but didn't want to cause any trouble. So I just let it go.
