Can peanut butter spoil?

Contributor: Modern^Spank^Anthem Modern^Spank^Anthem
can peanut butter spoil? I just opened a jar this week, the expiration date is February 2013, but it smells spoiled and tastes funny. I did 't think it was possible for it to go bad at least not that quickly. Do you think it's tainted?

Rechargeables, plug-ins, or batteries?
I've noticed lately that I won't give a toy a second look unless it is rechargeable or plugs in. Does anyone else do that? What do you tend to buy..

YES! I never keep food I even have to question. That may sound wrong, but if I have to think about it being okay to eat, it's probably not okay. I don't want to get sick!

Yep. I can go bad. Any oil can go rancid. It can make you sick. When ever somethings is in doubt throw it out don't taste it.

Getting sick isn't worth the few cents you might save eating possibly bad food.

kraft peanut butter you suck! I've bought this brand before I guess I got a bad one...maybe it hadn't been sealed properly or exposed some how. Waste of an entire jar,

Never had peanut butter spoil on me, but I store it in the fridge. If it smells bad, don't eat it. Really.

If you still have it you can call the company and report it, they will send coupons out to replace the product

I wouldn't know. But I always go with the "it's better safe than sorry" motto when it comes to wondering if food is spoiled or not. In my household spoiled peanut butter would be a tragedy. It's nothing for 2 jars be gone in a week.

Yes, peanut butter and anything with unsaturated oils can easily go rancid. I'd toss it. And next time keep it in the fridge.
