Hall of Misspelling Shame : What words do you see misspelled/misused the most?

I'm quite useless without spell check. Seriously. It doesn't help that I type quickly and am the queen of typos.

But, I don't see these errors in your reviews when you submit them to be edited! You know the difference, that's why you catch them when proofreading. You correct yourself and I think that's great! I make mistakes, too, but i also do my best to correct them. I don't worry too much about chat and comment typos, but I spend much more time perfecting my reviews, or back in the day, any school work.

As I mentioned in the intro, I am not such a stickler for chat and comment typos - real typos, not errors stemming from lack of understanding. But, I do think a review, or article should be proofread before submitting because this is more formal writing.

I just read a posting and thought:

Never abbreviate "who are" to "who're". Sounds offensive

I see a lot of these often like other people do. I don't think I'm as bothered by it as other people are honestly. Most of the time I can figure out what they meant which is all that matters to me. I will admit that I probably make mistakes with affect/effect often. I've never understood the difference but haven't put much time into studying the difference either lol

HAHAHAHA Well it certainly looks bad, but when most of us say it, it sounds more like whu R, rhymes with manure

I was reading this story online about children writing cute notes. One of them was a kid who drew a picture of a girl and wrote "T is for Tits" (she was trying to spell tights), another kid wrote a note for her dad that said "you are the best cock" (trying to spell cook)

I giggle too much over these things.

Yes, there are sometimes funny mishaps. I remember an american sitcom I used to watch. The youngest son made some election posters for his brother writing: "I lick Mike"

His brother was not amused.

And quite famous is this kid's drawing: When I grow up I want to be like mommy:

M'kay. Let's say you wanna pluralize a noun. More than one cat = cats; more than one girl = girls; yadda yadda yadda. Seems obvious, right?

NOPE.

I constantly see cat's and girl's instead! SERIOUSLY, PEOPLE?!

Oh, but it get's (that's a purposeful mistake there - had to do that, lol!) worse than that. Have you read all the comments on this thread? LOL, you know they put apostrophes where they shouldn't be, but can't manage to use them when they are needed. I do editing for reviews on this site (really proofreading, but Eden calls it editing) and I constantly see "Im, its dont", etc. and then get the girl's and cat's you mentioned.

@Eugler, that's really cute, I don't believe it for a second, but it's cute!
