How Would You Rate Your Penmanship?

On A Scale Of 1 To 5..How Would You Rate Your Penmanship?

I had to send a package to someone recently and I was appalled to see how much my penmanship has deteriorated! I was filling out the address & customs forms when I realized it looked really bad. Granted I was sick at the time and shaky, but I have since written thank you letters and it was better, but not like it used to be! I am out of practice because most everything I do is done on the computer.

I'd say my penmanship used to be excellent, but now is just 'very good', or bordering on 'average', if I don't feel well. I decided to ask others about their penmanship and I am curious what you have to say.

I used to do calligraphy for invitations and people would swear it was machine done. Not sure why, but my cursive has always been very smooth and even. If you all knew what I actually do for a living, that fact alone would make you laugh...as I am in a business where people are known for horrible penmanship! My hubbies can go either way. Very nice or down right scrawl. Depends how rushed he is.

Mine is poor to average..and yes, it's gotten worse w/age...though compared to people I work with mine is great.

Hey, I do calligraphy, too, but not ever for money, so I doubt I'm anywhere near your league! Well, if I didn't already have a good idea what you do for a living, (your forum posts tipped me off), I now certainly think I know! The only professionals I can think of that are renowned for poor penmanship are physicians, especially on hand written prescriptions!

I'll rate mine as very good for now since I am obviously out of practice. However, no matter how poorly I think I'm doing, it is always legible. I used to have excellent penmanship, but like most skills, it takes practice to keep it up. When I am really rushed, or just writing for myself, I am less careful, but even then, it's always legible and it's better than much of the writing I see.

Anyone else ever see what would be considered beautiful writing, but it's too hard to decipher? A friend of my mom's used to send me letters & the script was very visually pretty, but she sacrificed function for style -- I had such a difficult time figuring out some her words! I have noticed this more often with older people, (I'm 45) and I wonder if anyone else has seen this?

I'd have to say a 6 or 7 if it was an option. I've broken my fingers too many times fencing and dueling.

I believe mine's pretty good -- unless I purposely scribbled it.

Mine is pretty good. It's easy to read. It's very curvy and sometimes I write too big but overall I like it.

Average-poor depending on how much time I take on it...most of the time when I'm actually writing something down though, it's rather rushed so it's pretty messy.
My mother likens it to "chicken scratch", and always says it's too small to read.

my handwriting is really bad. I have tried to make it better but it never works.

Mine isn't the best at all, but I'm pretty awesome at doing lettering! It doesn't make the slightest bit of sense. I can do the fancy tattoo cursive or flowing "brush stroke" style. Any of it. My handwritting is under par though.

Very bad I got an F in school for it and have not improved much since then.

My penmanship is poor, but it was way worse when I was younger. As a teenager it improved because I had to write a lot. Note that I've been forced to write with right hand despite being left handed, so yeah.

You too? Around third grade my teachers made me pick a hand to use even though I was ambidextrous...my mom's still pissed about that.
I wound up choosing my right hand based solely on the lack of left handed scissors in our school.
I figured I'll just work my left hand back up to an equal level with my right one now that I'm not being forced to stick with just one. =3

When filling out parcel slips... good lord. My printing is very boxy as then I can go over it many times. My board writing is great as I have to pay extra attention to it to make sure my students can understand it. When it comes to my own personal note taking or sending an actual letter/note to someone, I am told my penmanship is beautiful.

Mine was never very good, and now that I use the computer as much as I do its gotten worse.

It depends on what I'm writing...notes to myself? Horrible penmanship. Notes to someone else are pretty and in blocked print. When I start to work on my novel (for some reason I feel handwriting it makes it more "legit") I do a combination of cursive and print. Hubby seems to be the only person who can't read it.

You're writing a novel?! Wow, you're the second person in two days to tell me that. SincerelyN writes them and so does KyotoAngel, if I'm not mistaken. Ohh, I sense a discussion topic! Going to post it right now...

I look forward to this topic. : )

My penmanship depends. Notes to myself are illegible, but I have a great hand if I want to

It would be interesting to compare penmanship almongst kids today compare to 20-30 yrs ago. With technology, I would imagine that it is not focused on as much in schools.

I'm often told that I have the best handwriting that anyone has seen. Some people wish they could write as well as me.

Really? I had no idea they stopped teaching cursive! Wow! Am I that old? So the future holds no cursive writing...wonder if that means we will actually be able to read young doctors handwriting

I like my penmanship. Sometimes I have to slow down if I am writing for someone else otherwise my handwriting looks wild and artsy, I love it.

To the best of my knowledge, it's not taught in any school in my city.
I was never taught it. I learned on my own from computer fonts.
