Do you have stretch marks?

Contributor: sunflower sunflower
Do you have stretch marks? I feel like almost every woman has them.

I've had awful stretch marks all over my body since I was an (extremely skinny) 13 year old. I mean REALLY BAD stretch marks. They're almost all faded now but idk?
Do you have them too and how do you feel about them?

I got mien when I was pregnant. I was very tiny and then after being put on bed rest and also having toxemia, the water weight gain per day was huge.

I have some on my thighs, even though I've never gained or lost more than a few pounds. I am very pale, so they are hardly visible.

I have stretch marks all over my body, my arms, legs, belly, butt, thighs, breast, you name it! i absolutely love them! There was a time where i was very self conscious about them, but over time i learned even the skinniest of people have them (as well as cellulite), and started realizing their a psychical marker of growth. I liek them, i like other peoples and i find them to be a really attractive asset to ones body.
Honestly i'm proud to have dark, deep, visible stretch marks and i wish more people felt the same way about their own bodies.

I have them from fluctuating weight gain.

But woman who have pregnancy stretch marks? Be proud! You're a tiger who has earned your stripes!

I am fine with them, they have mostly faded and I feel like they are a natural part of life!

I have stretch marks on my breasts and hips, though the ones on my breasts generally aren't visible if my chest is supported. I'm very pale, and mine are more like white scarifications than anything else. They're shiny when you look at them in the right light. The marks themselves don't bother me, however the way that they look over the cellulite in my thighs does disappoint me. I think that that's a general hatred of "un-smooth" rather than anything to do with the marks themselves, though.

My partner is 6'2", and he has stretch marks from growing so quickly vertically. I think that they look awesome, like he's been clawed by a wild animal (only without the, you know, pain, bleeding & recovery),

I never had them until I started taking steroid medication in my middle to late 20's. Since I was on so much steroid, consistently, for so many years I gained weight, looking like I was pregnant and my skin become much thinner & fragile. It tore the skin all over, just below the surface like nothing I've ever seen in pictures of other's stretch marks. They were really wide & deep, anywhere from 1/2" to almost two inches wide. Boy did they hurt! I got them everywhere except my arms, hands & feet, neck & head & back! They stayed dark purple for about five years before they started to fade. I have very pale skin & some now look like pearly white ripples while others are still pink. They look sort of like zebra stripes all over. I am just relieved they have faded, not stayed so livid looking & no longer hurt! If I had a baby to show for it all, then I would feel better about it!

I had some from when I was a child and would go through growth spurts, but most of the ones I have are from pregnancy and fluctuating weight gain after that. I'm not CONFIDENT about them, but they don't bother me like they used to. I have them, that will never change, so I don't let them bother me so much any longer.

I have stretch marks over my belly, hips, and breasts. The ones of my breasts and hips have been around since I was in my early teens. I went from being shaped like a 2x4 to having boobs and hips seemingly overnight. I am most proud of and most self-conscious about my belly stretch marks. I love them because I got them while my body was creating my daughter... I dislike them because they are not sexy in a 2 piece bathing suit. I still wear my 2 piece though

Mine are mostly faded nowadays but they're still noticeable. I really don't care about them anymore, I got them from childbirth so what's to be ashamed of?

I got some after having to take steroids after surgery. I gained twenty pounds in a very short period of time and although I was able to lose the weight, the marks stayed. I am ok with most of them, but some really bother me.

This is an interesting thread. I have never really paid any attention to them on any one, or given much though to them in general (stretch marks). They just, are. You know? I really don't think you should feel ashamed about such things. I am sorry to hear that some people do feel that way!

I have some on my back, but they're mostly faded and I don't give them much thought anymore. I really dislike body-shaming (of pretty much any variety) anyway.

I am thin and fit, and also have stretch marks on my breasts and inner thighs. They aren't extremely visible, and I don't worry about them. My breasts and thighs grew as I matured, as did every other part of my body - sometimes stretch marks are a sign of that growth. (I also have cellulite, and while I don't like it, it's there so whatever.)

I feel like even though my body doesn't always work as well as I'd like it to, it's gotten me this far and allows me to do everything I can do - so I appreciate it. The scars I've gained along the way are just proof of the times my body has gotten me through!

My birth control decided that it hated me a few months back (I gained 30 lbs in a month) and so I for sure do. I really don't like them. :/

I have them in the usual places and have attempted to get rid of them... nothing worked.

Over time, I just got used to them being there.

I do, and have a lot on my lower abdomen and hips, I think they are mostly due to weight gain. I hate them!!!

I got them when I finally decided to grow (and almost stop) around 12/13. Then got some more from weight gain and quick loss. I hate it and I feel ashamed that I have them and I can't use having a child as an excuse for my disgusting, ugly body I'm SO self conscious about it.

Me too! I've had them ever since my early teens. I have stretch marks on my butt cheeks, my thighs (outer and inner) and my breasts. Hell, I've even felt them on the backs of my calves before! However, they don't always seem to be there & are not visible, only felt them with my fingers.

The ones on my butt cheeks are the ones that I was bothered by most. I don't really care about them, but worried that my stretch marks (the most noticeable ones, visually, are on my thighs) would cause me to be way less attractive to my partner. Other than that, they don't bother me at all, and I should have never even worried that something like marks on my skin would cause my partner to be less attracted to me. Hey, I grew, got smaller and grew some more! It left marks on my skin, big deal! And they just so happen to look kind of neat when I'm real tan and the ones on my thighs are silvery. So that is how I see it now. It's just not a big deal to me & I'm so glad. At one point, I went through a phase where I just figured they must be ugly & I bought about 4 different brands of "stretch mark erasing cream." Not the smartest way I've spent $. None worked. They smell good though! Lol. I also bought 2 creams for "tightening" the skin in hopes it'd help with the marks. Stupid thing to spend my $ on. I still have the same marks that are the same depth and length. I don't think any of those products made a difference and now, I don't care.

I too think every person has stretch mark, but not just women! Let's not forget men get them too. Most men I know have them. I had an ex who had three times as many as I did. No big deal to me. My partner has a few minor ones.

Also, stretch marks have nothing to do with your weight. They happen to people of all sizes. I've heard they happen when you gain a lot of weight, but that's untrue. I think it's more to do with your skin stretching, maybe rapidly? And doing so during times like puberty when you're growing like a weed. They CAN come up if you suddenly lose a lot or gain a lot of weight, but I have done both (lost a huge amount very rapidly and gained a large amount very quickly) and neither of those things caused me a single extra mark. Mine just happened during puberty, as most probably do.

There are some things we can choose to not feel badly about, not let it get us down & there are some things that we just can't help but get down over (for me that's my sides sometimes) so when there's something about me that I can easily not stress over, I make sure I don't (stress over it.) Stretch marks aren't something that deeply upset me, so I forget about them and when they do catch my attention, I just think they look interesting. I've never seen stretch marks (on my body or someone else's) and thought "ew gross, how ugly!" It's just some marks on skin, so I'd hope the people we are interested in would not let something like skin marks prevent them from being as attracted to us.

Thank you, Gary! See there. I knew people didn't think so badly of them. I think it's US who criticize our bodies way more harshly (whether it's over stretch marks or love handles or cellulite) than others. I guess it's true that we tend to be our own worst enemy or critic or whatever it is. I bet most people actually don't think much of these things when they see them.

If I do they are very light. I've been from 145lbs to 220 and am now back down to 170 so what I have is thin and light barely noticeable. Never really thought much about them but there are other parts of my body I'm more self-conscious of.

I have stretch marks on my lower back. They popped as I grew during puberty. There not where anyone can easily see them - they don't bother me.
