When you use the product search function (when looking for products to review), it doesn't search entire phrases or product titles. Instead, it only searches from the beginning of the word. So if I searched for "gag" it wouldn't show me "ball gag", but if I put in "ball", it would. Just a hinky little thing about the search function I just noticed.

I've given them to servers at restaurants, my tattoo artist, someone at the sex toy party I just went to... not to mention IRL friends that know what I do.

Great great thread, guys! Kudos to Kindred for starting such a cool discussion By the community, for the community, indeed!!!
Thanks! I'm hoping that at some point we can make all of these tips easily available to everyone in the community in some clear and easy to find format.
One thing that took me a while to learn but I think EVERYONE should know is that there are SO many kinds of reviews!
Every advanced contributor can:
- Have a regular monthly review. Depending on your rank, you can select a product from a certain price range once monthly for review.
- Do a manufacturer sponsored review. You can find these by going to "Product Search" then selecting "for free assignment" and then "manufacturer sponsored." By doing a manufacturer sponsored review you are able to do more than one review a month - one sponsored by EF, and another sponsored by say, Cal Exotics or Vixen Creations.
- Buy-out reviews. By "grabbing" an item, then going to your assignment cart and selecting "buy-out" the EF site will automatically generate a 30% discount (!!!) on the item. You "buy out" or purchase the rest of the cost of the item. In exchange for the 30% discount you write a review for the product. You can do this for ANY item regardless of price. So if you really want that Pure Wand? Do a buy-out and pay around $70 instead of a little over $100!
-Description reviews. These are often assigned by the administrators, although sometimes you can request them yourself by browsing the product search. These reviews are particularly objective and neutral because they act as a kind of third party description of the item that is used as the "blurb" on a product. Your opinions can be worked into the review, but things like the "use" of the product as well as the summary of it should be as neutral as possible.
Other reviews:
- Assigned video reviews. You can email Carrie Ann about becoming part of the video review program. As long as there are no other descriptive reviews on the product you can have an assignment sent to you (separate from your monthly assignment) that you "pay for" with a regular written review and a video preview of the item. You are also given a gift card ranging from $25 to $50 (depending on the product) for your work.
- Not assigned video reviews. You can add a video review to any written review, and as long is there is no other descriptive review for that product you can receive a $25 gift card for your work.
- Adult videos. You can email Carrie Ann about these as well. Payment for these videos varies, and she can explain all the details to you! These are also separate from your monthly assignment.
WHEW! It's a LOT of information, but the great thing about it is there are so many ways to get involved, contribute, raise your rank and get to try cool products all at once. Maybe you hate the idea of being on camera but love writing. Or maybe the writing comes a little bit harder to you, so you decide to supplement your writing with a visual aid. The cool part about the review program is no matter what your style is, there's probably something for you that suits your personality.

AND the Not Assigned Video Reviews need to be OK'd by Carrie Ann first. She might have the product out for assignment. Want to make sure it's OK!
Again another little bump. I love all the information in this post. The little tips and time savers are exactly what I would love to have had when I first joined.
This is an awesome thread! Thanks for starting it.
I haven't had a chance to read through all the pages. I kept meaning to come back to it when I found the time (but I'm still looking for the time I keep seeming to lose, LOL!).
This came up in another thread. There is a Move option associated with items in your Wishlists. You can easily move an item to another list using this feature. This works well with the current issue where porn movies are automatically placed in your most recently created wishlist. Simply select the move option and transfer the item to the appropriate list.
Interested in doing Video Reviews? Here is Carrie Ann's definitive thread on the Video Review Guidelines. It contains all of the information you need to know about how to get started in the program.

There is now an Official Video Review Guideline page detailing all of the information from Carrie Ann's original thread making it much easier to learn about the various types of reviews and programs available. Thanks EF!

In the most recent Community Events Committee (CEC) meeting (link, we discussed a lot of great ideas. Among them was the common theme that newbies can easily be overwhelmed by how much the site and community have to offer. While there is still some discussion as to how best to present all of this information, I was thinking we could start making a list of helpful tips that we didn't necessarily know about immediately.RSS feeds: I tried to read every review when I first joined but was frustrated with how quickly new reviews posted. The Review Page only lists the 30 most recent reviews. Similarly, the Community News Page only lists the last 60 reviews. At the rate reviews are pumped out these days, reviews are quickly bumped off the page. My solution, which I didn't learn about for a few weeks, is to subscribe to the RSS feed. That way, I never miss a review again. How do you do that? For those unfamiliar, simply select the little square range icon on the Community News page and subscribe using your reader of choice.Alerts: Did you know that you can set an alert and be notified by email on a number of different things on the website? You can set one for an out of stock item and be notified as soon as it is back in stock. You can set one to be notified any time someone posts a message on your wall (this should be set by default IMHO). Following a forum thread you're really interested in? Yup, you can set an alert to be notified anytime a new post is made.So share a few helpful ideas you have come across that you wish you knew about sooner.

Thank you for this information. I joined the EF community today and it's been a bit overwhelming trying to figure it all out. Thanks for the tips!
There is a blog (separate from Eden Cafe) that maintains all of the club and community event information. link
There is currently a page for each club (Birthday, Bloggers, Cooks, Kink, Lit. Eden Lives Healthy, Photographers, Porn, and Milestone) that includes summaries of each meeting held.
Each Workshop that is held by a community member is summarized here as well.
There is also a monthly calendar with all of the community events listed (club meetings, Rumbles, parties, etc.).
Be sure to check it out. There is a lot of great information here.
