Anal Toys for Not-Quite-Beginners (read more for details)

Contributor: Dusk Dusk
I feel like at this point I've read every thread there is on anal toys for beginners, anal sex for beginners, etc. I read reviews that say certain items are good for beginners, and others for intermediates. My problem is, I have no idea where I lie on the scale!

I've had anal sex a few times already, and we're starting to figure things out a bit. However, I've never owned any anal toys and I don't really know where to start. I'm not sure what kinds of things would be appropriate (I'm a beginner, but it's not like I haven't had anything in there before).

Are there some toys that you would suggest for someone who has had anal play but not used toys before?

So basically, something awesome enough you won't get bored with it, but not overwhelming?

Tantus Alumina Revolve -- awesome multipurpose toy.

Also, maybe Fun Factory Felix, Tantus Ryder, and the Feelztoys Rombee. (All from my to-try list.)

I would not recommend the Rombee for a beginner. If you do Eden's real size, the thing is pretty large. Larger than some of my dildos. I would not put it near my butt and I'd classify myself as someone who enjoys beginner toys and has had anal sex more than a handful of times.

I think a lot will depend upon what type of experience you're looking for. A plug typically offers a feeling of fullness, beads will offer stimulation as they are inserted and removed, and probes can combine thrusting and may also have beads/texture. Some toys will also offer vibrator options. If you have some dildos with different shapes, that may help you decide what you're looking for.

I would say experience level to a degree dictates the size of the toy, potentially the material it is made of, and what texture/features it may offer. For example, as a beginner, I would probably recommend a silicone toy versus a harder material such as glass or metal. Silicone will be more forgiving for a beginner. Size I would try to base on your current experiences. Have you tried any dildos that you can measure as a frame of reference? Or since you've had anal sex you could measure your partner. Lastly, I would probably select something simpler in design versus having a lot of texture. I think texture can be a bit too much for beginners.

The divisions between "beginner" "intermediate" and "advanced" generally are based around how much you can relax your anus, as well as how much stimulation you like. Advanced toys need you to be able to keep your anus relaxed even when you're being stimulated, and generally are about 2" in diameter. Intermediate is from about 1.5" to under 2" (though some intermediate sized toys are really advanced because of other features such as heavy texturing, for instance look at the Tantus Charmer, or rapid ex).

Play around with your toys and see how big you're comfortable getting up to.

We have found that smooth toys or lightly textured toys work best for anal beginners - and both my wife and I are beginners. The toys we're had the most success with are;
The small end of the Alumina Flow link and PureWand link
Glass - Lucid Heart link, Cyberglass 4-way link & Silenzo link
Vibes - Slim Stimulator link, Water Missile link & Tsunami link

Well manual stimulation always works if your a male the MGX/Helix are considered the best prostate toys. IF your a female than you can use any dildo/vibrator. My girlfriend doesn't like anal but she does love a vibrator in there while I pound away.

I would recommend the Tantus Ryder, it's great for a beginning plug, but it also is comfortable enough, and the base is small enough, that you can wear it for hours on end and it won't get chaffed or feel like you want to take it out. Any longer than that and you would want to re-lube it, but it's a fantastic item, just check the reviews on it and on other review sites!
