Are butt plugs good for everyone?

Contributor: Tuesday Tuesday
I've read some reviews of butt plugs recently that have made me interested in trying them.

But, at the risk of making you cringe from TMI, I'm worried that a person such as myself who often has internal hemorrhoids that this might not be a good idea.

Is there anyone here with the same problem who has tried butt plugs?

I also have some... GI problems, I will call them, related to my illness. For this reason I've avoided anal sex. Seems like that would cause further irritation in both my case and yours.

I actually have pretty much the same problem. I have a few plugs, and I really like them, but sometimes it can be a bit uncomfortable. I really enjoy having them in, but taking them out is a freaking uncomfortable feeling.

Do you lubricate them before you put them in?

I won't have anal sex because of this problem, but I'm thinking that something that just sits inside you without causing friction could be good.

I've got the same issues with internal hemorrhoids as well as a fissure, and my GI doc told me to lay off the anal play until the fissure heals in about 6 months to year or so. Having anal sex or a butt plug in with internal hemorrhoids is fine. Caution must be taken if they are flaring though, because if they're flaring, anal play isn't a good idea unless you potentially want pain and blood.

Lube is a must with anal play because the rectum isn't self lubricating.

Have you seen Aneros Peridise?

They're very small.

I sometimes wonder if I have a mild form of IBS (although Activia certainly does wonders). there are definitely times when I know an anal plug won't feel great because I'm already uncomfortable. I think certain issues, like hemorrhoids, may limit what you can do anally - if anything.

Yeah, I always lubricate them first. For me, they feel fine while they're in. It's just really uncomfortable taking it out.

I have "IBS with constipation." (Too much info? lol) I used to take Zelnorm for it a few years ago, but then they recalled it. But I do think it makes doing things anally a bit more difficult.

I second Sleeping Dreamer's suggestion to have a look at the Peridise.

Quite different than the traditional buttplug workings, and very, very petite.

Lubrication is definitely a must with any kind of anal play. I don't really have any problems down that way, but ocassionally even with lubrication it can be a little uncomfortable removing a toy...I don't think that's entirely uncommon. But certainly I think medical conditions related to the bowels would probably be a good reason to minimize anal play.

I've found that whenever my, ahem, issues flare up, I have to lay off anal play for a while. But I've found that, for me, gentle anal play (especially the vibrating kind) between flare ups seems to help keep them from rearing their ugly heads as often, as long as it's VERY well lubricated.

Actually if I feel like it, I use a butt plug. If it is uncomfortable, I remove it. Lube is always part of my play.

Taking a closer look lately, it appears I have those damn things too. (and I am only a 19 year old male) I blame it on from when I was younger and attempted to force it out with too much force.

I think I counted 2 (possibly 3) small ones on the inner sphincter thus far.

In any case, they limit me to solid toys only.
Even silicone can hurt. But glass, metal, marble, ceramic, acrylic, and plastic work fine.

Material that can be cooled down, I find feels the best.
Anything warm seems to cause mild pain.
I recently discovered that mentholatum feels very good on a plug when it is in. (start with only a small amt if you try because it could be overwhelming at first)

They also limit the diameter of toys I can use. 2.1 inches is about my max.
njoy's Pure Plug 2.0 fits fine without any pain when done slowly. Anything more I have noticed can hurt and I swear in the past I've seen small specs of blood when I attempt something more than 2-2.4 inches.

I guess it atleasts narrows down my choices, and what better ones than stuff like glass and metal, haha.

Anal penetration, regardless of by what... fingers, dil, butt plug or cock has to be worked up to...from smaller to larger and with sufficient lube. I use butt plugs almost always during vaginal sex and masturbation. It doesn't take long before your butt just kinda adapts to anal penetration and the pleasure that follows...Size overall, is not a contest, all of us feel different down there, and so much depends on the day, mood, level of relaxation and whatever.

Hmmmm, sounds like a conundrum. I frankly would proceed with caution. Probably some irritation but if you are careful it could be fine.

If you have problems I'd consider using only oil or silicone lubes as well. Water based lubes can dry out after a while, so removal can be difficult.

I just started with anal plugs. (The most I've ever had up me was a finger.) I was a bit worried that the one I had picked (Icicles No. 26) was going to be a bit too big. I have internal hemorrhoids that stick out a lot (TMI lol).

It took a few tries really lubed up (probably too much on the glass..ha). In.. ouch ...wait... in a little more .. Finally, I got it in there.

The cool feeling of the glass feels very soothing on my hemorrhoids. (I'm going to try intentionally cooling it next time!)

I noticed yesterday when I took the plug out the hemorrhoids actually stayed in! Nice bonus!
