Air bubbles on a silicone toy

Contributor: biancajames biancajames
My friend gave me a silicone anal dildo that sort of shaped like beads/bubbles (not sure what its called but its pure silicone). I love it but I just noticed a few tiny air bubbles right against the surface of a part of it- I can't return it because it was a gift, but I'm kind of bummed because it's technically not non porous now. Is it possible to file off this kind of imperfection on a toy? Or do I just have to use it with a condom from now on?

It is still nonporous if its pure silicone. You can use an exacto and cut them off so its flat. It doesnt change the property of the silicone at all. It might have been an airbubble in the mold before they ran a copy of the toy and they didnt do their job by cutting it off for you.

Even if you don't do any trimming (as in, if they're 'dents' rather than 'bumps')---it is still nonporous in the sense that the material is impenetrable to bacteria etc. So just do a thorough job of cleaning and all will be well.

Yeah, it's just for anal use I'm more concerned about residual bacteria getting trapped in the indents (ick)

Ah the filing off part made me think they are sticking out not in. Still same stands it doesnt change that its nonporous like I said.

Even if non-porous, you are right that it would still need to be well cleaned to keep that property. I always set aside an old soft toothbrush for cleaning indented areas on sex toys, and it should work with small air bubbles too.

And like Antipova said, you can use a little bit of bleach (10%) or alcohol to be certain.

Yeah, if it's pure silicone, you should be fine.

I had a toy with dozens of bubbles that were too small to clean. The manufacturer replaced the toy for free.

If it's Tantus or Vixen or Fun Factory they'll probably replace it even without the receipt. Try e-mailing the manufacturer directly.

Hmmm. I actually cut off the damaged part already, might be too late. Also it's not a toy I've seen on this site ever- my friend got it as a sample from the company (she works for a toy retailer) several years ago...I do love this toy but meh.
