Do you feel cutesy sexy toys are demeaning to a woman's sexuality?

Contributor: Rhazya Rhazya
I honestly don't get why all the cutesy toys for women. Granted, I'm not fond of the straight out ones that scream penis either. I'm not even talking about the feminine colored toys (Though that bugs me too.) But the ones that look like they are some little kids toy? It to me, makes masturbation/sex feel childish or dumbed down. I haven't seen tons of cutesy sex toys for men, have you?

Never seen a problem with it, if it works for the person it's all good to me. Plus, a lot of those toys are discreet looking so folks don't have to worry about them as much.

The ones that look too much like Fisher Price are unsettling.

I don't personally like or buy "cute" toys, like those with cartoon characters or faces on them. But, they don't offend me in the least.

People have different styles of sexuality and different desires and needs. I know people who love their Hello Kitty vibrators, and as long as it works for them, I'm OK with it.

word for word this.

Just because it's not for me doesn't mean that it's not for someone. I'm not saying this to be an ass, but I don't see the point in being offended. As long as YOU find the toys you like and are happy with your masturbatory experiences, why does it matter what else is available to those who might like it?

Everyone has their own little niche when it comes to taste! Some people might find cutesy toys less intimidating, or feel like they help take the "shame" out of masturbation, or heck, maybe they just really like whatever the cutesy part of it is. Some toys are more about novelty than pleasure.

Everyone should get their fair shot at finding something that works for their body and their mind, or something that just makes them smile when they see it, even if they don't really use it.

There are other toys that favor other fetishes that don't really do anything for me, or might make me uneasy (when I'm thinking of it for myself), and some of those toys are creepy to me. But then I shrug it off because it doesn't mean I have to buy it. It's for someone else to enjoy.

I think people have lots of reasons for buying cutesy toys, and if there were no market they would not keep being produced. I don't think they're demeaning, I think different people find different toys appealing, and there's no reason to believe that men don't use these toys too. I get your point, but the market responds to demand from the consumer and not everyone finds more serious sex toys appealing.

There is a market for cute toys for women, but there isn't one for me. Women see a kitten and say "GAHHH! KITTEN! IT'S SO CUTE!" Men see a kitten and go "Hey, it's a kitten." It's all supply and demand.

I don't buy cute toys, but I would. They are discreet, which is another reason some like them more. If they look like something else, no one will think it's a vibrator if you leave it out or someone finds your stash.

Some women prefer to have innocent looking toys. However, I do agree that there are enough of them on the market. I would really like to see more interesting toys like the Bottle Rockets that aren't animalistic or flowery.

I don't get the problem, they're mostly marketed to people who want cutesy or discretion. If that was the only option, that'd be more offensive

Also, remember that many countries do not allow toys that have any phallic resemblance, and so cutesy toys are created to circumvent the law.

Is it necessary to say anymore than they make what they think they can sell. If you don't like something - why complain? Just move on - life's too short!

While I am not a huge fan of the cutesy toys (one reason is that in my experience they lack power), they certainly don't bother me.

As long as no one is getting hurt, and everyone involved is a consenting adult - I really don't care what other people like or do, since it doesn't involve me.

I don't have anything wrong with them. I don't own anything cutesy like Hello Kitty but that's me. My husband and I have an agreement that I won't get realistic looking phallic shaped dildos so I don't but I like that there's other shapes available.

I don't see anything wrong with cute toys. How cute are we talking here?
I buy whatever I like and I wouldn't be offended by what other toys are out there. There is something out there for everyone really. We all have our own likes and dislikes and none are right or wrong.

I think I'd call the Man Eater a cutesy male toy.

I personally like the cutesy toys. I think they are fun, but I can see how they aren't for everyone. Obviously people are buying them if they keep making them.

sometimes just the word toy can be an issue but as long as the context is right i'm okay with most of them.something i didn't like though- cum cloths (as they were called) made out of the flannel they make baby stuff out of with pictures of diaper pins and rattles on them. that i found weird but that's just me

It bothers me sometimes. I won't buy a toy that looks really childish. That just creeps me out. I own some toys that are pink, and whatever. I'm fine with the colors. But I also like toys that look "serious" like my solid black Sasha Grey Signature Swell Wand. Now that is a toy with some heft!

I personally do not buy them, but I can see the market for them.

I've never seen the "cute" toys as demeaning to anything or anyone. It is just filling a market niche. I mean, just because EF carries ball gags doesn't mean I am going to buy one. I may not like them and I may have personal thoughts about them, but they fill a niche for those who do want them.

I'm glad the sex toy market do fill so many niches.

I don't find it offensive, I just think there's something for everyone. Just like with lingerie, how you'll see everything from pink and frilly to dominatrix-style leather. Both are sexy, just in different ways.

I don't really think so. It's about what makes you feel good. If a person wants a vibrating Hello Kitty vibe, that's on them. People purchase them for themselves, they're not forced on them, so I don't think they could be demeaning.

I prefer my toys to look feminine, curvy, pretty, and aesthetically pleasing. I intensely dislike things that look like real penises or are flesh colored. I'm not into cartoon characters or animals on my toys, for sure. But as a lesbian and someone with some bdsm/fetish/kink proclivities and habits, I have a very live and let live, non-judgmental approach. I don't like to be judged for the things I like, the things I do, the toys I buy or use or what I do with them, the people I sleep with, the way I do it, the things that turn me on, the things I do to please my partner, or anything else that's really immaterial when you get right down to it. If someone wants to rub Hello Kitty on their clit and that makes them happy, they're not hurting anyone and why should I care? Whatever works for ya. Saying cute sex toys are demeaning is like saying that by wearing high heels and bras and makeup because I like how I feel when I'm wearing them I'm setting my gender back a few decades which, for all that I, of course, favor the success of women as individuals and as a gender, I completely disagree with. But that's a rant for another soapbox. On the contrary, I think that cute sex toys make sex toys and sex and sexuality in general approachable and acceptable to women who might otherwise be inhibited or intimidated and show our society's growing acceptance of women as sexual creatures and of sex as a natural, healthy part of humanity and women's lives. I think that pretty, classy toys like the Jopen, Leaf, Lelo and Je Joue lines are part of the same movement and accomplishing the same thing for a slightly different appeal. There are women who will be more comfortable trying sex toys and thus exploring their bodies and sexualities via a toy like MiMi who is pretty and non-threatening, while others will be equally comforted by something cute and fun like a little bunny on their vibrator. Both accomplish the same thing for a different set of women (or maybe some of the same) and both are ok!
