Diflucan is a long acting med, as is Gentian. It can take up to 3 days to take full effectiveness, so you may want to wait on an other pill. If, in 3 days, you are still uncomfortable, call your doctor.

I'm a nurse and a lactation consultant as well as a long term yeast sufferer, so I've seen most of what is used for fungal infections of the nether regions.

I hope you feel better, but you do have to give both the Gentian and the Diflucan a day or three.

Thanks so much for the advice!

I've already washed out the gentian blue (I was sick of having blue-stained underwear) though, will it still be taking effect?

It's OK to bathe, of course. But, it does seem to work better if it stays blue for a while. The Diflucan is very strong, though, and it's your first yeast (yeast is a fungus) infection, and it looks like your doctor tried to cover all his bases, so I'd wait a day or three before calling the doctor again. The Gentian was in effect for at least 36 or more hours and the Diflucan is still working, so you should be feeling better in a day or so.

IF you have lots of increased itching or pain or bleeding, call your doc right away.

My guess is by Saturday or Sunday you'll be feeling pretty well. If not call him or her on Monday. Your doctor did tell you to avoid sexual relations until the itching was better, didn't he? I know we hate to hear it, but the meds work better if the tissue isn't being messed with constantly.

Oooohhh... a multi coloured vagina!!!! Nifty!!!

I am glad to hear that your itch is getting better!!!

But for those who still have some insane itching could be micro cuts (not sure of the proper term, but that is the translation). When you wipe too hard, your skin becomes raw, or you might have been properly lubed up, but one spot gets a little tender, a razor nick... and this area is exposed to air, or becomes a little dry or again some form of friction upon it... makes for insane itching time. Try taking your shower head, and just using the water and your hand, rinse. Then a warm wet wash cloth with baking soda on it as a warm compress and sit with your legs sprawled for a little while.

thong panties also used to sort of make me itch, commando not so much I have 'HPV', the phantom term used to describe so many things, and different things depending on who you're talking to... I talked to several doctors all saying COMPLETELY different things, on whether HPV is curable, treatable, preventable. Any warts, even flatwarts are considered HPV, but they don't always come back, nor go away. Everything's different for everyone, and I've had no returns---knock on

Almost always this is the beginning of a yeast infection, and may not involve copious discharge or smell. The over the counter medications do not always work, but the doctor can give you something better. I went through a period when I started a new supplement (Omega 3-6-9) that changed the pH of my vagina and caused recurring small-scale yeast infections, that could only be cured for a few days at a time. What I did was started taking an acidophilus supplement (you can also just eat good-quality yogurt) and within a week the yeast infection was gone and has never come back (I've been taking the supplement for almost a year now). Good luck!

I will second this. I went through a bout of UTIs in my 20s. Antibiotics caused yeast infections. I'd almost rather have a UTI to be honest. My doctor told me about the yogurt (must have active cultures) trick and I almost wept with gratitude. I take yogurt EVERY time I am on antibiotics now.

I do have to hop in here.

There IS harm in treating for yeast infection if you're not sure it's a yeast infection, which is why it's recommended to see a dr if you've never had one. Using yeast infection medication when not necessary, much like using antibiotics when unnecessary, can cause a resistant strain of yeast, which is much harder to get rid of, and can cause a yeast infection when there wasn't one prior.

Glad you saw the doctor and I hope you feel better soon, yeast infections can be so uncomfortable!

I had that issue around December to Februaryish. I thought it was a yeast infection, so I got medicine for that and it didn't do anything. I went to my gynecologist I can't tell you how many times. They kept trying to tell me it could be normal. It took them forever to figure out what was going on. They told me that for itching you can dab white vinegar on it and that should help (I never tried it!) They finally prescribed me some antibiotics and it got rid of it! It was not a fun time.
