Ladies: Wearing Boxers During Your Period?

Contributor: MeliPixie MeliPixie
I have a question for the female-bodies, pre-menopausal women out there who still menstruate. As a general rule, I like to run around the house naked unless we are expecting company or might be leaving unexpectedly. But when my period rolls around, I feel ugly and disgusting, and therefore don my panties with menstrual protection, then top it all off with a pair of boxers or, on the occasion that I can't find boxers my size, pajama shorts. It's like my version of sweatpants, since I get overheated SOOO easily (I have a hormonal imbalance and often even get hot flashes from it). Ever since I was about 13, I have always worn boxers during my period, even under my normal clothes when heading out. I feel more comfortable and secure, and I feel as though without my boxers for my period, I would just die.

My question is:

Does anyone else here find it more comfortable to wear a specific item of clothing like that, that isn't sweatpants or their "fat" pants?

I wear yoga pants, but they're pretty close to "fat" pants I guess. They're nice, stretchy, and comfy. Also, I pretty much wear only black panties during this time.

I feel the same as you about a period, I feel gross and nasty but love my sweats for that ugly period time...I also do not have them any more since I had a hysterectomy a few years ago

I don't really wear anything different from usual. I use a menstrual cup instead of pads or tampons, so I often forget that I'm even on my period. haha I tend to avoid the sexy pretty underwear just in case I leak, but that has only happened once or twice in the past 3 years I've used a cup.

I do like to wear men's boxers to bed though.

I wear old, old boxers with non-functioning elastic. They don't press on my stomach - I hate tight waistbands when I have cramps.

I've never thought about it, so I suppose I just wear whatever is comfortable.

I am constantly in lacy, frilly, colorful and fun knickers... unless I'm bleeding. I have a selection of dark cotton panties that I keep around so that I don't ruin any of my fancy stuff, and they're pretty darn comfy in case of bloating or whatever.

I have a ratty pair of cloth shorts that I've had for years that I mainly use now for when I want to be comfy on my period. I wear boxers too and I always wear my most comfortable pajama pants. I always avoid wearing my nice undies in case of stains and I wear dark colored ones too. Being comfortable is key.

If I am wearing a pad instead of a tampon I will wear regular underwear instead of a thong

If I wear a pad, boxers don't work well. Tampons, I wear whatever.

I don't wear anything different if I'm going out. If I'm lounging around the house (and if I'm using a pad), then I force myself to wear my normal underwear with my pajama pants. I don't typically wear anything under those.

I tend to wear the briefs my husband refuses to wear, because if there is an accident, we can simply throw them out (he has way too many underwear he won't wear).
