Are glass toys really that dangerous?

Contributor: Kenneth Fort Kenneth Fort
They seem to me like even if you assume they won't break, there's always the possibility that they COULD. Makes me paranoid.

Constructive discussions on Glass dildo:

Glass Dildos
Do glass dildos feel better than silicone?

Our first glass dildo
My wife and I are looking to introduce a glass toy into our collection. Help us choose which one.

Favorite thing about glass
I am curious as to what others like most about glass toys and why? Also, if you do not enjoy glass toys, then what is the reason?

Is it safe to use a glass dildo with a clit vibrator?
I've been wondering if anyone has had any accidents using glass and vibrators at the same time. It did occur to me that a strong vibe could crack...

Glass butt plugs don't hold their lube?
I've been using the libety plug, it's glass, and I've noticed that lube comes right off of it. Because the toy is so smooth I haven't noticed this...

Me too... I sometimes think I want to try one but I'm not sure. Just the thought of glass freaks me out. What if it was in your room under your bed or something and it was really cold, and then you used it... Would anything happen to it? I don't know if I'd ever try glass. I probably wouldn't like it anyway because of how hard it is without any kind of give at all, might be kinda painful.

Borosilicate glass is made to withstand extreme temperatures and shock. Do you own any Pyrex glass or bakeware? It's the same glass. They can be frozen and boiled with no stress on the material. They can also be dropped from a reasonable height and survive unscathed. There's really no way you can break one during normal use. Glass is a great material for sex toys! It's completely body safe, latex free, phthalate free, hypoallergenic, and completely able to be sanitized. You can use them for temperature play or body massages. They're incredibly versatile and durable.

Oh, you mean breaking-wise? I don't know. In my opinion, I don't have many worries with breaking my glass toys because I've dropped them numerous times and really, they've been seriously banged around! Never had a chip or break, so I put my faith in em'.

As for the bruising people claim -- never happened to me. I've never actually had a glass toy hurt me besides just discomfort from swirls and texture. But I am the kind of person who can enjoy cervical stimulation (X-orgasm) so that could be why glass is so harmless to me. And that I carelessly drop them... A LOT! Lol.

I highly doubt there's a need for the paranoia. No worries. Hey, to make you feel better, look up Toy Time Tim's video on here where he tests glass toys! It's an awesome vid. If you can't find it by searching, let me know and I'll see if I can bring it up. It'll definitely give you a better understanding of what to expect with glass.

But do remember, all glass is different, but they're all made to hold up very well.

No, I trust the ones that Eden sells. I wouldn't buy from an individual or unknown maker. As long as you take care of your glass and make sure it doesn't bang against other hard things to chip, then you're going to be okay. Be careful with thrusting because it can bruise.

Here's PART 1:

Pyrex glass, is it safe?

but for some weird reason, Tim's videos aren't showing up in both threads.

I have never been nervous about using a glass toy vaginally. And I really love the glass toys I have! But when I started looking at anal plugs I went with silicone or stainless steel. I dont think a plug would really break, but it is a mental block for me too. Since your biggest sex organ is your brain, I think you should buy the toys that are most appealing to you without worrying is it logical.

It takes quite a bit to break a glass toy. And out of every material I've used, I love glass the best! Before I tried a glass toy, I was more concerned about it hurting or being too hard over breaking.

as long as you check it before each use for chips....and never drop it you are safe

Check them before each use. Be careful when you put them away and you should not have a problem.

Do you know how hard it is to break those things? They aren't delicate at all, and they wouldn't be sold on Eden if they were dangerous.

I mean, unless you're using a cracked or chipped toy I don't see what the concern would be.

I felt okay buying borosilicate glass after watching my grandmother and mother use basically a lifetime of Pyrex dishes! Those things have been abused and still look great.

I was slightly nervous about the cervical bruising issue, so I just bought a shorter dildo that would never reach the end of me unless I pushed it in past the handle (another thing I probably wouldn't do voluntarily!).

They seem very safe to me, but I still wouldn't be able to shake the fear that they could break. It's irrational, I know, but that's just the way my brain works.
