Are you safe with glass toys??

Contributor: Lady Hazel Lady Hazel
I just keep browsing the glass toys. My local store does not carry any for me to veiw. I cant help but wonder how comfortable I would feel with something that could break and cut me. Is this something you think about or am I thinking about a different type of glass.

Toys made of glass are just as safe as toys made of silicone. They are made of break resistant glass and your vaginal muscles cannot constrict hard enough to shatter a glass toy....not even the anal muscles which are the strongest in the body can even stress glass toys.

You do have to look for cracks or stress fractures if you drop the toy but so long as there aren't any visible signs of cracking they are very safe.
I have well over 20 glass toys of vatious thicknesses and types of glass and none of them have ever given me any problems even after being dropped on my flagstone floor.

To be honest Jelly toys are more dangerous for me than my glass because Jelly products actually cause me to break out in a rash.

As said above, glass toys are quite safe. They're not made out of the kind of glass that your average drinking glass or something is made of which breaks easily. They're not hollow and they're made of solid, heavy glass that is not the type that shatters or splinters. It's not going to break during normal use. You have to drop them very hard on a very unyielding surface to break them and even then, it will usually just crack or break off a chunk and then you know to throw it away. You're supposed to check silicone toys routinely to make sure they don't have any scratches, tears, etc in the material and glass should be checked in a similar fashion for cracks or chips, which are unlikely if you don't drop them and store them in a way that prevents them from clinking around too much (padded pouch or a box that holds them). I think it's easier to damage silicone than glass, actually. I've seen a lot of posts about people being afraid a toy would break inside them but that's really not possible as long as you're using boroscilicate (pyrex, tempered) glass toys. They score a perfect 10 on Eden's safety scale. It's important to note that it's a VERY firm material, like wood or steel, and can bruise your cervix if thrust vaginally with too much enthusiasm. But because of how firm it is, it's very popular for g-spotting. The only other danger with glass is unsafe heating and cooling methods if you want to use it for temperature play, which is it quite good for. But it is possible to damage your sensitive genital flesh with items that are too cold and, obviously, extreme heat can burn. Freezing your toys at extreme colds can be risky and heating in the microwave can cause uneven heating which creates hot spots in the toy where part of the toy can feel just fine, but there can be a spot that is too hot that you might not notice. So that's something to be cautious with. But in general, glass toys are very durable and safe. Not to mention, compatible with any type of lube you might want to use and easy to clean and sanitizable! Boil it, bleach it, dishwasher, rubbing alcohol, whatever you like. So it's very safe to share between partners or orifices.

It can't break and cut you during use!

I would tell you to think about a thick glass mug, not a fragile champagne flute.

Glass toys are usually even more structurally secure than that mug because they're more compact and the glass is much thicker.

They are usually solid glass, not a thin frame.

Yeah, I can't say it any better than Airen Wolf did above. Glass toys are made out of Pyrex / borosilicate / tempered glass - which are all terms referring to the same type of glass. It's the kind they use in laboratories and kitchens because it's so darn safe.

I also keep the following 2 threads bookmarked for whenever this question comes up. ToyTimeTim did a couple of demonstrations just to show us all how safe glass toys are, check them out - you'll be amazed!

Everyone's given some great advice; the glass toys are safe as long as you handle them carefully and store them securely. They're quite nice for temperature play, and overall a great investment. It als matters where you use them (if you're hovering over 12-inch tile in your bathroom versus in a carpeted bedroom).

I am not concerned about glass toys breaking, but I am about the rigidity. I've seen numerous warnings about how they can cause bruising.

The glass that glass sex toys are made from is more like Pyrex. I voices a concern about breakage while at a toy expo and the company rep I was talking to slammed the glass dildo he had been shoeing us against the metal table! Not only did it make a ton of noise, but there was no way it was going to break or chip!

We only have a very small glass toy right now (came free with purchase from another site), but cannot wait until we decide on a larger piece! It feels amazing in use!

Just don't drop them on concrete and you should be okay.

I only have a few glass toys, but I enjoy them. I found that I'm more comfortable with smaller glass toys in comparison to larger non-glass toys (eg. silicone).

I wasn't comfortable with the idea of glass toys, then I got one and hated it. Granted, the toy itself was a disaster, but I just didn't like the feel of glass. Too firm. I don't use them.

Do you have any Pyrex glass in the house, like measuring cups or food storage containers? Try breaking that. I've dropped measuring cups tons of times, on tile floor, and they don't even crack. Same with the glass ovenware, that stuff withstands 500 degree temps, almost immediate cool-down and rough handling with no problem. It's the same type of glass that sex toys are made from, absolutely no worries of them breaking.

I have -never- heard of a glass toy breaking. :3

I don't feel unsafe with glass at all-- it's heavy-duty material, I have glass plugs for my stretched ears that have been dropped a few times even, and they're fine!
