I usually purchase my own. If I get one as a gift from someone that's good too though. Personally I at least know what I'm getting for myself when I buy my own, and it's not something random that I might not end up liking.

Both are nice but if it is a gift I'd prefer to go over a list of things I'd like before they purchase it? My SO knows most of what I like but there is always a chance she'll pick something odd. ;u;;;
