My friends and I first decided to go in high school, for fun, basically. It was a creepy place with little "viewing booths" and there were always grizzled men in there who would look away if they noticed you glance at them. We would read the personals ads posted on the wall and marvel at the dusty jellies and lingerie.
Nowadays, my husband and I stop by our local stores to see if they have things we are looking for, to see them in person/in hand, but they rarely know what we are asking for or talking about.

My first time in an actual adult store I was super nervous, like it was "wrong" for me to be in there. Wrong isn't the right word, but I can't think of a better one right now. I remember being really overwhelmed at just how much stuff there was in general, and my boyfriend at the time and I spent like, an hour in there trying to figure out what we needed/wanted.

My mother, knowing of my desire for a vibrator, took me to a shop in her town. It was more of a lingerie store with some toys at the back, so the selection wasn't very big. I was nervous, but also really happy to finally be getting a toy! The shop owner was nice enough; she carded me and then carried out the sale without question.
I've always been very grateful to my mom, since I think she was a little uncomfortable with the situation, but was very helpful all the same.

The only time I've been in one was a little more than 30 years ago - Good Vibrations in Oakland, CA or maybe another sex store for women at the same location. I'm not sure. I scanned the room, spotted the Magic Wand, bought it and was out in a few minutes.

I haven't ever been to one. Mainly, because my husband and I dont' drive. The nearest adult store is in Marietta. Now that my mom and I do talk about sex and toys/porn I hoping to go with her in November. She says the one she goes to is really nice and it doesn't make her feel sleezy going there.

The shop I visited the first time was pretty nice. It wasn't one of those scummy places with the video booths in the back (I visited one of those years later; my story is here.). I spent a little time looking at the toys (some of them smelled strongly of rubber) and the porn videos. It was fun.

I haven't been into a real sex toy shop. I live in a rural town in Arkansas and there's not really anything around. The closest I've gotten is Spencer's which is more of a novelty shop than anything else.

I actually first went to an adult store in Germany, since I was 17 and couldn't get into any in the US of course! I just wanted to check it out more than anything. I was fairly familiar with sex toys already, but it was pretty cool to browse in person!

I had a great experience! After I turned 18 I went with a friend to Babeland in New York. Everyone there was so helpful and friendly and it was a very clean, pleasant place.

I believe the first time I went was with my best friend when we both lived in NYC, we each lived around opposite corners of Fantasy World in the village. I think she bought something, but I can't remember what. I've always been a fan of online shopping - more selection!

The first adult store I went to was actually Good Vibrations in downtown San Francisco. It was with a an ex-bf. He lived very close to the store at the time. We went in because I wanted to see what it's like in there. He was kinda conservative in term of using sex toys. We didn't get anything, came back out about 10 mins later. I didn't start buying vibrators/lube/dildos until a year or 2 later.
