The dipper - butt plug discontinued by Doc Johnson - review by ksparkles16

Doc Johnson’s The Dipper is an interesting anal toy. It’s technically a butt plug but doesn’t really stay in well. In my opinion, it’s more of an anal probe. I found The Dipper to work as an excellent warmer toy for bigger anal pieces like the Big End. I recently purchased the dipper and the groove from Doc Johnson. I prefer the Groove because it offers some texture, but the Dipper shouldn’t be overlooked. I’d suggest to you if you’ve experimented with anal play before and are looking for something new and fun. It’s a very long anal toy so if you love long pieces this could be a great fit for you.

The Dipper is made out of really nice silicone. I’ve always said that if you wish to stick something up your butt, choose silicone. It’s safe, comfortable, and can be sterilized. Doc Johnson’s silicone is always smooth to the touch. The Dipper is totally smooth with no texture. There aren’t any seams on the Dipper and no smell! Even though it has a little drag, be sure to always use a little drop of lubricant when starting anal play. Like most silicone, it does tend to attract some hair and lint. The Dipper is very flexible and can stretch any way you please.



Silicone is rated a ten out of ten on Eden Fantasy’s Safety scale. It is hypoallergenic and non porous. This means it won’t harbor bacteria. If you wish to sterilize the Dipper, simply boil it for a few minutes. You can also place it in the top rack of your dishwasher. After you sterilize it, you can share it with a partner if you please.

The Dipper is designed similarly to most butt plugs. However, instead of increasing in size, the top starts big and decreases in size as you go down. There is a slight bulge on the bottom and a very long neck. This plug is LONG, almost too long. It was hard for me to stick it all the way up. It measures 7 ¼” in length with an insertable length of 6 ½”. It has a circumference of 4 ½” and a diameter of 1 3/8”. I’d definitely suggest the Dipper to someone who has already experimented with anal play since it’s so long. It is suitable for intermediate to advanced users.



The Dipper has a really big base. I really dislike the huge base because it makes it uncomfortable when you try to insert it all the way. The front of the base has the Doc Johnson written on it. It is really pretty. The bottom shows the color combination of silver and blue swirls.



The toy is on the bigger side so it’s not ideal to travel with.

As I mentioned before, I found that I liked the dipper best as a warmer up toy to get me a little more opened up. I always try to warm myself up first before inserting a bigger toy. It makes my life much easier. For most sessions, I start out with the Dipper and then go to my Big End.

The Dipper is a little on the big side. That, combined with its big base means this isn’t a toy you can really walk around in. It doesn’t really stay in well during activity. When I would stick it in as far as I could, it fell back out once I took my hand off of it. The neck isn’t small enough for your butt to grab hold of. That did disappoint me, but I found I liked using this as a probe anyway. I especially like the top at its widest point. I liked letting it sit gently on the expanded part to slowly open my butt up.

I’m not a huge fan of the big base. When you insert it all the way, it’s a little big for my butt. It felt uncomfortable.

The Dipper is waterproof so I like to wash mine in warm water and soap. As I mentioned, you can sterilize it by boiling it for a few minutes. I like to store mine in a plastic bag.

Since this is silicone, using a silicone lubricant could possibly damage the material. I suggest sticking to a water based lubricant.

Like most Doc Johnson’s toys, it was placed in a clear plastic package. It is nothing special, but holds the toy. The back lists some of its attributes. I recycled mine.

I'm rating this toy four stars out of five. I only took one star off because of its huge base and long length.
I think it's a great toy for the price. Ever anal player should give this a try someday.
