Crystal jellies anal trainer kit - beginner anal kit by Doc Johnson - review by Ayumi

True to the name, the crystal Jellies are designed as anal trainers (butt plugs) that are best for anal use. That does not mean you cannot use them vaginally, but as semi-porous trainers, I would save it for the back door, unless you use a condom, which is is recommended for prolonging the life of this product.

These plugs can be used by anyone to prepare for anal sex, or you can use them for pleasurable stimulation. There are a few ways I like to use these plugs, but the two I like best are; 1) Wearing them around for a little while prior to anal with my partner 2) Plugging, or manipulating them slowing in an out of my anus during clitoral or vaginal stimulation (It's a phenomenal feeling). For men they can be used almost the same way, while having your partner lick or massage your taint with a toy or their finger. The best way to manipulate this is using your hands of course, thought things can get a little slick with lubricant and such pretty quickly. So if you are not a fan of textures and such, you might want a different toy.

Luckily the Crystal Jellies have flared bases, making it perfect to use anally. As an advanced user, I was a little afraid of the small one getting sucked in despite the base, but I didn't have that issue. When I am super relaxed, I steer clear of the smaller Jellie.

Crystal Jellies

Material
The Crystal Jellies are made out of Sil-A-Gel, which rate a 5/10 on Eden's safety scale. Although the trainers could be used vaginally, Sil-A-Gel is not a material I like near my vagina and others may feel the same. Anally, I am less picky. Sil-A-Gel is essentially Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) a material well known for its horrible sweet plastic smell that will not go away no matter how much you wash this. You can smell it even far away from your nose and it is a stimulation turn-off. Since these are trainers however, they will be inside more often than not and this might not be a huge issue.

One of the biggest differences in Sil-A-Gel from regular old PVC is that it is soft, super-smooth, and semi-porous. Additionally, this material is anti-bacterial, limiting the risk of transferring bacteria. The non-toxic property makes it safe to use by most anybody. A major trait of Sil-a-Gel is the latex and cadmium free design. Cadmium is a metal known to cause cancer and used as a stabilizer in most PVC made products. (Eden's Description & The Doc(DJ)).

These Jellies are also latex free and phthalates free.

Texture
The Crystal Jellies really are as described. They are soft, but firm. They are not squishy in any way so they do maintain their shape when inserted anally. Because they are a little bendy you have to steady it straight to insert anally, but that isn't a huge obstacle at all. They are soft, but ribbed so while inserting it is a smooth go, providing lovely stimulation on the way in and out. I do not see beginners being averse to the texture, but if you are a person who doesn't like ribbed anal toys, then do not buy these.

Design/Shape
The Crystal Jellies are designed just like you expect plugs to be, with a rounded cone like shape, narrow at the tip and flaring out towards the base to avoid it getting sucked all the way in. They are smooth enough for easy insertion, and the pink color makes them an attractive artistic addition to any collection. It works just like any plug should and I wore them comfortably around for a little over an hour before anal play. The bendy nature of the plug makes insertion a tad difficult, but makes the plugs perfect for moving around and doing things with them inside. Even the base is bendy so it can mold to your body well for ease of movement.

Size
As mentioned, there are two Jellies. A small, and a large. My pictures provide the rough measurements that I got with my tape measure, but below are the exact measurements listed on the product page. I found the small, too small, but it is a cute little size which sits nicely in the palm of your hands, a nice non-intimidating look for beginners. Average users might prefer the larger plug, but in the grand scheme of things, advanced users may have to go elsewhere if they are looking for a particular fit. As an advanced user, I didn't get the full feeling I like and the plugs went in so easily I did not get the full benefit of the ribbed stimulation.

These Jellies, though not discreet, are suitable for travel due to their size, and they can easily be tucked into any bag or suitcase. If you do not mind people finding them, then you do not have anything to worry about.

Size Comparison

Although I rate these highly in the performance realm, I am not head over heels about them. I can see many pros for people who do not have issues with the material or the smell, but they are also waterproof and bendy for easier use. However, because they are so slick once lubed up and inserted, you might find these slipping right out instead of staying in, once your muscles are relaxed. This is particularly true for the smaller of the two. I have no trouble holding my toys in, but the material makes it so slick that it does not seem to want to respond to any kind of grip. This is something to keep in mind, but the larger to the two is a comfortable fit and neither plug is intimidating. What makes this better for me is using them in conjunction with one of my bullets for clitoral stimulation, but I do not see these lasting very long.

Care & Cleaning
The Crystal Jellies product page recommends cleaning using soap and water. I prefer to clean my toys using toy cleaners and/or wipes since the residue left over by soap gives me horrible irritation. Currently I am using Eden's Cleene spray for my toys, which I ordered a few months ago. It worked fairly well for washing off my Wonderland Pure Silicone Lubricant which has been difficult to wash off of many toys. However, the Jellies as I mentioned have a oily kind of feel to them already so it is difficult to tell if all of the lubricant is washed off.

Pay special attention to the ribs when you wash these. Also, due to how quickly this collects lint, you might want to air dry it or wipe it with a sham-wow type cloth so it doesn't put lint onto the toy after washing. Either way you would want to clean this before and after use.

These really cannot be sterilized in the dishwasher or boiled. The material will surely be ruined.

Storage
If you do not mind the bulkiness of the packaging, the Crystal Jellies can easily be stored in the original packaging molds. Otherwise, I think they are best stored inside a ziploc baggie as they collect lint quite quickly. Since they are small, they are easy to store in the corner of any drawer or toy chest.

Lubricants
Sil-A-Gel is compatible with water-based and silicone-based lubricants only.

The Crystal Jellies were in a plastic packaging, which at first I thought I would have to cut open, but luckily you just pop it open.

There weren't any instructions, but the front of the package says, "Anal Trainer Kit," "Grab a Jellie and Jam!" and it shows the small and large labels next to the respective Jellies. It also has the Doc Johnson Logo prominently displayed on the front. Obviously this is not discreet, telling the world you are getting ready to embark on an anal training journey! Although great to give as a gift, the packaging is difficult to wrap, so you might want to take this into consideration.

The back of the package has some of the same labels as the front, but it also includes that the Jellies are "...perfect for fulfilling your longing desires," and that they are available in pink, crystal clear, and purple.
