A magic dragon indeed

The Dragon Silk Restraints by Leatherbeaten are well made, beautiful wrist restraints. Buckle them loosely for mild restraint or more tightly for a challenge, these restraints are versatile for beginning and advanced users. Just don't frolic in the autumn mist because unlike Puff the Magic Dragon, these restraints aren't waterproof.

Use

The Dragon Wrist Restraints by Leatherbeaten are meant to act as wrist (or ankle) cuffs during beginning/intermediate acts involving restraint. While I'm not too familiar with this genre, common sense tells me that care should be used when using these cuffs during more intricate restraint situations. These cuffs look like they will hold up over time. But I can practically guarantee that these cuffs would be a terrible choice if you need seriously sturdy restraints.

I think these cuffs will work well for everyone. Beginners will be appreciative of both the (very very)soft leather padding and the beautiful silk detailing. However I will warn that beginners might be put off by the fact that the cuffs close with a buckle instead of velcro or a simple knot. The first time I put them on I was uneasy with the fact that I could not remove them quickly. However I've grown to love these cuffs and I don't feel nervous about the buckle anymore. The buckles are probably a huge selling point with intermediate/advanced users because they give the restraints a more "serious" feel.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

The craftsmanship on these cuffs is superb. Each cuff has a main piece that has the silk pattern on the surface and leather in the interior. The surrounding edge of this toy is reinforced with a synthetic material for protection. There is a leather strap running down the front of the cuff that is used for sizing/attachment. The strap is about 12" long. It also has 12 holes for sizing. And since the strap is leather you could make more holes should the provided ones be too far apart. There is a D ring in the center of each restraint. While the D ring can move about a half of a centimeter, it is clearly situated underneath the leather strap.

Each restraint is 8 inches long and 2 inches high. The strap is about a foot long. Theoretically it should fit all wrists up to 4 inches in diameter. Small wrists won't have problems because holes are punched all throughout the strap. If your wrist has a 1" diameter, these restraints would still work! These restraints really should fit most users.

In many respects, these cuffs are made better than the Silk Sashay cuffs and better than the Silk Sashay blindfold. The leather interior gives the cuffs a sturdy feel. The silk on the front is also sewn into the backing flawlessly. Additionally the studs in the wrist (to attach the leather strap) and the buckle are very shiny and are clearly of very high quality.

Performance

I put these cuffs through many "tests" and they performed flawlessly. I pulled REALLY hard on the D rings multiple times, rubbed them together, and used them as ankle cuffs and tied myself to the bed (it was an interesting experience). They held up very well. If you tie them tight enough I don't think you could get free because of the buckle, but remember to keep them loose enough to let blood flow through to your appendages!

I also think that these cuffs will hold up better than the Silk Sashay cuffs since the buckles and the leather make them a bit sturdier. These cuffs are absolutely beautiful and durable. My only complaint is that the leather on the back of the strap looks like it is shedding a tiny bit. But that might be par for the course in the realm of leather cuffs (Someone please comment on this!).

Care and Maintenance

I keep my cuffs in a ziplock with my Silk Sashay Mask and my Silk Sashay Cuffs. It's a very pretty arrangement. I store the cuff flat and I only fold the leather strap once. In use you can't see any markings from the fold, which is very very nice.

Theoretically the metal on the cuffs might need polishing every once in a while, but that would depend on your use/preferences. Other than that, these cuffs are very low maintenance. Just keep them away from sunlight because they're actually vampires. I kid, but the sun could alter their color.

Packaging

Like all Leatherbeaten products, the cuffs come with minimal packaging. The cuffs come in a big clear Ziploc bag with a little card that gives the name of the restraint. Leatherbeaten believes in putting their cost and resources into the product itself, and not into its packaging. This also minimizes waste, which is always a plus. I love packaging so I would have liked a silk pouch or something, but I wouldn't want to drive the price of these lovely pieces any higher so I am very very happy with the packaging. Instructions weren't included with these cuffs, but their use is somewhat self explanatory. I would have liked cleaning instructions, however recommendations for cleaning silk can be found over the internet.

Personal comments

These cuffs are really beautiful and they match the Silk Sashay Mask perfectly! I would highly recommend buying the set together as the pieces really complement each other.

I would also like to expand on an earlier comment regarding my usage of these cuffs as a beginner. Now I am not "100%" new to cuffs since I already reviewed the Silk Sashay Cuffs and have been wearing those quite frequently. But when these cuffs came I was taken aback by the buckle. Now it's not intimidating, but it's not a quick release either. Aside from their beauty, my favorite aspect of the Sashay cuffs were their quick release. If I felt intimidated I could pull on some fabric and they would fall off. Not so with these wrist restraints. They also felt heavier than the Silk Sashay Cuffs because of the buckle and the leather strap. Generally I don't wear any bracelets, so this was also a slight shock. But I prevailed in the end and I am now used to the added weight and added restraining abilities of these cuffs. I give them my highest recommendation.
