Fresh chain leash - leash discontinued by PHS International - review by carenautilus

Ah, leashes. Are there people out there who don't want to tie their lover up and drag them around the place? Surely not.

This leash is part of the Fresh line, which is comprised of vegan kinky toys, all in pink and blue. Make no mistake, I have a huge hard on for the Fresh line (...metaphorically). And this leash is every bit as lovely as the matching collar I have (here's my review!)]. I'd recommend this leash to anyone interested in kink, regardless of skill or experience level. I use it mainly for humiliation play, but animal players would enjoy it too, I imagine.
Okay, stats: The leash is 36.5" long total and consists of a 6" polyethylene handle, 29" metal chain and a 1.5" metal swivel clip.

The handle is a loop of two stitched-together layers of polyethylene (pink on the outside, blue on the inside). The two layers of are stitched together with white thread. Polyethylene is a faux-leather material, and is super durable. It's notoriously hard to tear or stretch. It's quite a sturdy handle, and you can tug on it pretty damn hard. You'll strangle your partner before you damage the handle. You can slip the loop over your wrist and grip the chain, but I find this awkward, because the handle is just stiff enough to make this look stupid (there's a dick joke in there somewhere). The most natural way to hold it is to slip the handle over the widest part of your palm. It fits my both my partner's tiny hands and my own big ones easily. It should fit nearly everyone, even people with giant hands. Also, fun fact: It works quite well as a slapper. Slap it against your partner's ass for a quick shock of light, stinging pain. It makes a great sound, too.
The metal chain is composed of small oval links. Also it's pink! I must confess the pink chain is my favorite part. The links are about a 1/4" in width, and just over that in length. They're quite smooth and non-pinchy. Even in rough play where the chain was bouncing around and occasionally getting wrapped around a limb, it didn't pinch at all.

The metal clip--which is disappointingly not pink but silver--is connected to the chain by way of a small D-ring. Now I have no complaints at all about this toy, except for the clip and the D-ring that attaches it to the chain. The clip is just too small for my liking. While, naturally, it fits the Fresh collar, it doesn't fit the equally lovely Vegan Jaguar Collar, which my partner wears. The jaws of the clip open to a maximum of 1/4", which will accommodate many, but certainly not all D- and O-rings. And while this is somewhat nit-picky, the D-ring connecting the clip to the leash would be better as an O ring (which would evenly distribute the weight, something the D-ring fails at).

Really, this are minor complaints. If you want to attach this to any O-ring or D-ring with a thickness of 1/4" or less, this a nearly flawless leash.

The Fresh leash, like most of the things I've bought from the line, came to me plastic package with a cardboard insert at the back. The top easily pops open. You could use this box for storage, but it's awfully bulky. You can store it pretty much anywhere, as long is it's dry (metal will rust in wet places). It doesn't tangle by itself, though I suppose it might get tangled up with rope or something similar. I tuck mine neatly in a pocket of my toy bag, and it works fine.

Cleaning is easy. For the polyethylene handle, use a microfiber cloth or soft bristle brush with a mild soap and warm water to clean, and pat dry. The metal can be cleaned in the same way. Although you can technically disinfect the metal chain and clip with a 10% bleach solution, or boil them, it would be hard to do in practice without touching the handle. So I'd advise just soap and water. Make sure the leash is entirely dry before you store it. Again, rust.

Despite my minor quibbles, this really is a lovely leash. I've had so much fun playing with it, and it's sturdy enough that it'll last me for years. It's bright and pretty and versatile. In short, it's a great addition to most any toy bag.

Yeah, I'm not gonna even pretend to be coolly indifferent. This leash is awesome. I love pretty much everything about it, from the bright colors to the sturdy build. It's a well-loved and much-used tool in my toy bag.
