Use

It's not too often that a toy will surprise me as much as the Compact silicone dildo from Tantus did. When I first took the Compact out of the package, I was skeptical: aptly named, the Compact is smaller than most of my other toys, and it was so flexible that I could bend it entirely in half. What good is a dildo if it's not thick enough to be felt, I thought, and not firm enough to thrust with? Oh, what a difference a few days (and a hot romp in the shower) make.

The Compact by Tantus

The Compact is harness compatible and best-suited for vaginal and anal play (due to its hygienic material and flared base). While I think this dildo could appeal to experienced toy users (especially if you're just looking to add some variety to your collection), it seems like a good toy for beginners because of its smaller size, simple design, and easy to care for materials. One caveat: if you're new to toys and looking for a multi-purpose dildo, I would recommend a different model. If you like a realistic design, then I highly recommend the O2 Mark from Tantus; unlike the Compact, I get excited just by looking at Mark. His size, curve, shiny head, and matte shaft are pure eye candy. If you prefer the unrealistic colors of the Compact and a sleek, stylized design, consider the Silk Medium or Silk Large from Tantus. The reason I recommend Tantus products is because I have found their materials and manufacturing to be consistently of the highest quality. Their platinum silicone formula ensures that their toys are hypoallergenic, body safe, water safe, tasteless, odorless, easy to sterilize, and long lasting. For a slightly larger investment, you get a toy that will last you for years and years of use.

Material / Texture

Safety rates high on my list of concerns for sex toys, so silicone is one of my all time favorite materials (glass is the other favorite--hooray for temperature play!). But beyond just being body safe, silicone is odorless and tasteless, making it good for many different kinds of play. Silicone also comes in a wide variety of textures and degrees of firmness. The Compact has a very slick, smooth surface (like other silicone toys it is prone to gathering lint), and although the dildo itself is small, some water-based lubricant is advisable to keep the silicone from catching on your skin. The Compact is of medium firmness (not rock hard, but not as pliable or life-like as the dildos in Tantus' O2 line). It is possible to bend the Compact completely in half, and there is some give when the dildo is pinched or squeezed. The firmness of the silicone is uniform throughout (unlike the O2 dildos, which feature softer, squishier heads, and shafts with a firm interior cores). Much to my surprise, the Compact was firm enough to provide some vigorous thrusting.

Design / Shape / Size

The design of the Compact is in line with what I have come to expect from Tantus: a stylized, organic form available in a familiar range of colors (pink, red, and black--I chose pink, which looks like a pearlescent bubblegum). At 4-4.25" in insertable length and 3" in circumference, the Compact is the smallest of all my toys used for penetration.

Length

Still, the Compact was fairly easy to thrust with, and the bulbous head made for a nice, if mild "popping" sensation. The dildo is also easy to use while stimulating the clitoris, as its small size makes it slightly more likely to stay in place. The bulbous head and the curved shaft are important features because they do seem to aid in g-spot stimulation. I would speak to this in greater detail, but unfortunately, I don't seem to have a very sensitive g-spot. Nevertheless, the stimulation the Compact did provide on the g-spot was pleasant. For the purposes of curve and girth comparison, I have shown the Compact next to my O2 Mark.

Performance

I'm happy to have the Compact in my collection of toys, but it's really an hors d'oeuvre or a side dish, not the main course. I don't think it's a dildo I will return to on a regular, everyday basis, but its fun ridges and bulging head make for an added bit of spice in my usual routine.

Ridges

I found I was able to thrust with the Compact more easily than I expected, and despite its small girth, I could definitely feel the pleasant pressure it placed on my g-spot when inserted. If you're looking for an all purpose dildo, however, the Compact will probably disappoint. It's not quite as versatile as some of the other toys I own, and I don't come away with the same satisfying feeling of fullness. With a toy as small as the Compact, I think it would be difficult for anyone to feel "thoroughly fucked" after using it.

Care and Maintenance

One of the best things about the high quality silicone used by Tantus is that it's extremely easy to clean and maintain. This is particularly useful because you will need to sterilize the Compact before you share it with a partner, or before to switching between oral, vaginal, or anal sex. To sterilize the Compact, you can immerse it in a 10% bleach solution bath, boil it for 5-10 minutes, or put it in the top rack of your dishwater for a hot water cycle (no detergent). You can also use a condom to cover the toy, but you must use a new one for each new partner or sex act (for anal penetration I usually cover it with a condom, just to be extra careful, and then wash it with anti-bacterial soap--it's just easier this way). Remember to store silicone toys separately from other silicone toys and products, and never use anything other than water-based lubricant, since contact between different silicone products can damage the toy. If you're very sensitive to harsh chemicals like me, then I recommend V Water Based Gel, which I was able to use with the Compact without any noticeable problems. I've also had some luck with Pjur Aqua, but it's admittedly pricier (and of a thinner consistency than the V gel).

Experience

What began as a romp in the shower ended as a roll on the bedroom floor. I was skeptical about how well the Compact would perform, but once under the warm cascade of water in the shower, I slipped it inside me and let the bulbous head press on the front wall of my vagina. As I moved the head, I could feel the three smaller ridges rubbing, too. The Compact very quickly had me completely aroused, and when I couldn't stand it anymore (or really, when I just couldn't stand up anymore), I hopped out of the shower and made a bee-line for the floor, towel in hand. Usually I'm not quite so gluttonous. Usually I can at least make it to the bed.

What excites me most about this toy is that I suspect it will be perfect for vaginal use during anal sex. While I don't have a very sensitive g-spot, I do have a very sensitive place on the back wall of my vagina--I like to think my g-spot was just wired backwards. The silver lining, anyway, is that I am able to have orgasms from anal sex. I can't wait to take the Compact out for a double penetration test drive, and I'll let you know how it goes in a follow-up review!
