Ribbed - dildo sex toy by Doc Johnson - review by Internet Brat

The ribbed dildo by Doc Johnson is a classic toy with a twist; the tip is smoothly rounded and the shaft is ribbed all the way down. I see this as more of a beginner's toy, as it is simple, non-intimidating, and thinner than most standard dildos. When using this toy for the first time it would be best to start out slow and gentle, as some other reviewers found the ribbing to be a bit too much - I am personally quite sensitive to textured toys and usually try to avoid them, but found I did not have any issues with using this dildo. The flexibility of the toy allows for it to be used in many different positions (it can easily be folded in half with no resistance). *I would not recommend putting this in your mouth, the taste is worse than the smell. More about that below*

This toy is meant for vaginal use only, it does not have a flared base that would allow it to be safely inserted anally.

The first think I noticed about this toy was the smell. As soon as I opened the package I was overpowered by the smell of plastic, fruity candy (at least that's what it smells like to me). Even after a few washes I could not get rid of the strong scent, and could smell it throughout my entire bedroom just from having it in a bedside drawer. It's now been about a month and while the smell is not as potent, it never really goes away. I also made the mistake of putting this toy in my mouth (don't ask)... please learn from my suffering and DO NOT PUT THIS TOY IN YOUR MOUTH. It tastes horrible, even after having washed it a few dozen times. Trust me, just don't do it.

The dildo is made from an anti-bacterial, latex, and Phthalates free PVC, which as I mentioned above makes it firm, yet flexible and soft enough to use vigorously without bruising your cervix. Unfortunately this kind of material is rather high maintenance and will require extra attention - everything sticks to it so be sure to inspect it carefully before using. The toy is ribbed which personally did not add any extra simulation for me but I could definitely feel it. The Doc Johnson PVC dildo has a safety rating of 2 and best used with a condom (especially if sharing!) as this material is porous and can be difficult to clean. It will also prolong the life of the toy.

I liked the design of this dildo, but the ribbing really did nothing for me and I could see how it would cause slight discomfort to some. I loved the overall size. I prefer dildos that are smaller and they are usually hard to come by, but this one was perfect. The size is also good for traveling or hiding away in a drawer, just make sure you put a cover on it while it is not in use.

I opted to get the "rose" coloured one, but I found when I received it that it is not so pink as shown on the website, and more of a peachy flesh tone. I don't really like flesh coloured dildos, something about them creeps me out and I wish I had of purchased the blue one instead. It also would have been nice if there were some kind of base on this toy because even though the manufacturer claims it's easy to grip because of the ribbing, this is not so when the dildo is lubed up.

Aside from the colour difference, this non-realistic toy is exactly as show in the example pictures: a smooth, tapered tip with a long, ribbed shaft.

I only used this toy once to try it out, and being someone who is not particularly fond of classic dildos in the first place, I find that there are just too many cons with this toy to warrant me really using it. While the size and shape is perfect for me, I didn't really care for the ribbing and the fact that every piece of dust, dirt, hair, fluff, etc will stick to this toy means lots of maintenance - it just takes away from the enjoyment.

This toy requires a lot of care.

It needs to be washed very thoroughly after each use with warm water and soap/ toy cleaner, allowed to dry and then stored in an air tight container or with a cover. I would recommend washing it again before each use just to make sure any debris it may have collected is rinsed off. You could use it with any lube you desire, but water based would be best - this toy gets pretty slippery so I don't think silicone lube is even necessary.

Pretty basic packaging but not the most discreet. Wrap it up if you are giving it as a gift.

If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't buy this toy. It doesn't suit my personal preference but for the price it's not a bad dildo. I just think there are better choices out there at this price point.
