Ribbed - dildo discontinued by Doc Johnson - review by steele

The best part of this toy is definitely the ribbing! The ribbed texture feels great when used as a vaginal thrusting toy. The texture of the toy, while extremely stimulating, was not overwhelming for me because of the smooth, rounded tip. This allowed for comfortable insertion. The toy was a perfect length for me; I can insert it fully while still maintaining a good grip on the toy. As for girth, it is perhaps a tad too much for me; it feels great for a few minutes, but I cannot use the toy with too much force or for too much time or it feels a bit painful.

The material, Sil-a-Gel, performs very well. It is flexible, yet rigid, silky smooth, and it warms up with body contact within a few seconds. I don’t feel that lubricant is a necessity with the toy, but I use a bit of Fun Factory’s water-based ToyFluid when I feel a bit dry or to aid in insertion. Both water-based and silicon-based lubricants can be used with this toy. Frequent cleaning is imperative, as the Sil-a-Gel tends to attract lint and dust. However, cleaning is easy; I simply take it into the shower with me and rinse it with hot water and soap. I own it in blue, and the bright, slightly sparkly material is fun. The fanciful color also helps my boyfriend feel a bit less intimidated; it helps him feel that I am not simply replacing his penis with another. He enjoys using it with me from time to time.

However, Sil-a-Gel cannot be sterilized. Therefore, it is recommended that a condom be used over the toy, especially if you are sharing it. I however, do not do this, because it lessens the sensations of the ribbing. Because of Sil-a-Gel's porous nature and the toy's lack of a flared base, I wouldn't recommend the toy as suitable for anal use. Personally, the toy is much too large in diameter for me to comfortably insert anally.

The only aspect of the product that I strongly dislike is its odor. The package says that it is lightly scented, but the strong smell of plastic and artificial fruit flavoring is not pleasant, and can be detected from several feet away. I wish that this product were simply completely unscented.

Overall, I have had a very positive experience with the toy and would recommend it to most people as a vaginal or g-spot stimulating toy. Perhaps it is not right for a person who needs a slim toy for comfort, but it would be perfect for most beginners. Although the toy’s artificial fragrance is an annoyance, it is not a great bother, and is a great toy for a low price.

Although I still like "Ribbed" quite a bit for the same reasons listed in my review, I have not used it very much due to its rather large girth. In this area everyone is different, but with continued use, I have found that this toy's diameter of 1.5" is a bit too much for me. Apart from that, this toy has met my expectations. I have gotten use to the plastic smell, and now it doesn't bother me so much. "Ribbed" has not had any wear-and-tear problems, and is extremely durable. It has also been continually easy to wash; I take it into the shower with me and wash it with soap and water. Just make sure to wash off all of the soap! Overall, I am still very satisfied with "Ribbed", I would just like to say that this toy may be too big for some.
