Reflections joy - traditional vibrator discontinued by Doc Johnson - review by pootpootpoot

Joy, from Doc Johnson's Reflections line, is a blue glass vibrator intended for vaginal use. It measure in at 6" long and 5" insertable, with a diameter of 1.5". Because of the texture supplied by the nubs on the toy's 'head', it can also be used to massage erogenous zones such as the nipples, clitoris, or perineum. The texture on this toy is intense so as to provide stimulation to the G-spot, so if you are texture-shy you'll want to steer clear of this one. This toy is louder than I'd be comfortable with for campus living.

As far as thrusting goes, it is a little shorter than I'd like, but it's still an option. As far as I'm concerned, the rigidity and texture more than make up for the lack of length, but your mileage may vary. As this toy does not have a flared base, it is not appropriate for anal use.

Joy is also completely waterproof, so feel free to take it along with you in the shower or use it for temperature play! The base is extremely secure, and the glass does a wonderful job of holding temperatures. This toy requires one AA battery, which is not included.

Joy is made of tempered glass with a plastic base. Tempered glass is a great material for several reasons: it's waterproof (and thus can be used for temperature play), hypoallergenic, doesn't shatter, requires very little lube, and can be very beautiful. This particular toy is no exception! I love blue, and the opaque body and shiny nubs are simply gorgeous.

As much as I love glass toys, most of them are transparent, and the way lube/my bodily fluids show up so clearly on those toys grosses me out. This glass toy is remarkable in that it is opaque (excluding the nubs), so it doesn't look quite as icky. It also hides the battery and internal workings of the toy.

The texture on the head of this toy is pretty intense; if you're not used to textured toys, I'd suggest trying a more gently textured toy before purchasing this one. The nubs are very rounded and not at all pokey, but still very noticeable. Their location is designed to stimulate the G-spot, and they perform very well.

This toy has no taste or smell, which is great! It is also extremely easy to clean. I was worried that I'd have to work to clean between every little nub, but there's enough space between them that you don't need to go at them with a toothbrush. A toy wipe worked fine for me, but you could also use toy cleaning fluid. I would not recommend boiling this toy, as the plastic base could melt or become damaged. Remember that even the smallest crack on a glass toy can do serious damage to your body, and make sure to inspect it for flaws before use.

This toy is very pretty! For those of you who don't care for the usual selection of pink and white, this toy is a great pick with its jewel-tone blue body and darker nubs. The 1.5" diameter may not seem substantial, but the rigidity of the glass makes it feel bigger than it is. I do wish that the base was a little longer so that thrusting would be easier, but it is still plenty long enough for insertion.



As this toy is glass, you don't need to worry about storing it near toys of any other material (unlike silicone toys). You do, however, need to worry about it getting scratched, so either keep it in the packaging, a sock, or a toy bag to avoid damage.

While this toy isn't lifelike, it's colorful enough to draw attention if left on a nightstand and clearly isn't meant for non-sexual massage, so I wouldn't say it's discreet. However, it is pretty small and the button requires a decent amount of pressure to turn on, so it is probably appropriate for travel.

The vibrations in this toy are only moderate, but they travel well through the material. There are three vibration settings (low, medium, and high) with only steady vibration, no patterns. When I use this toy for insertion, I usually alternate between the second and third settings, but for external stimulation all three settings have merit.

The vibrations are located in the head of the toy, and are controlled by a single button located on the base. Unfortunately, there is no instant-off function; the only way to turn the toy off is to cycle through the vibration settings. As there are only a few settings this isn't a big deal, but it still would've been nice to have. The button isn't difficult to press, but takes enough pressure that it probably wouldn't turn on in a purse. The noise is moderate as well, audible through a blanket and barely through a door, but definitely not through a wall.

This toy performed well underwater, heating up slightly but not to the point where it was uncomfortable. I wasn't the least bit worried about leaks because the base screws on so tightly. After drying the exterior I opened it up to see if any liquid had squeezed inside, and was happy to find it completely dry.

Glass is really easy to take care of, and the plastic base only barely hinders this. Simply grab a toy wipe, liquid toy cleaner, or some soap and water and go to town (with the base firmly secured). As the toy is waterproof, as long as it's closed you won't have to worry about your cleaning agent leaking into the battery compartment. I had thought the nubs would be difficult to clean, but there's enough space between them that you don't have to go at it with a toothbrush - a wipe worked fine for me.

For now, I'm storing mine in its packaging, but my toy box is beginning to fill up. When I need some more space, I'll stick it in the bag that came with my Amber Wave, since I keep it on display and it doesn't need a bag.

This packaging is gorgeous - if you're giving this product as a gift to someone who is comfortable with sex toys, its packaging will definitely give them a great first impression of the toy! The blurb on the back uses fancy language to tell you just how fancy your new toy really is, but I suspect that it is used on the packaging of the entire Reflections line, as there was no information specific to Joy.

The design on the front is very colorful and whimsical, with a see-through window so you can see your toy. This panel as well as the large text proclaiming "GLASS VIBRATORS" make the packaging far from discreet. The packaging is also a bit larger than the toy itself, so if storing it in a toy box you may wish to purchase a padded toy bag to store it in (unfortunately it does not come with one of its own).

On the back, under the blurb, there is a box that tells you to visit [www.docjohnson.com|the manufacturer's website] for warranty information and product registration. If you go to the site, there is a link on the bottom of the page titled "Warranty", and you can fill out a short form to receive a 30 day warranty on your toy! This form also lets them know where you purchased their toy, so it could be a nice way to let them know you found them through this wonderful site.

Well, this is the last time I order a product without checking the size. I was looking for something to even out the cost of my order, and saw this on the EdenFriends page. For some reason or another, I thought this was a bullet, suitable for use in cock rings, and added it to my cart after sharing it on my Facebook page. Imagine my surprise when I opened my package to find a 6" dildo!

Luckily, I love this toy. For one thing, the colors are gorgeous, a refreshing change from the choice of pink, black, or white that I usually find myself faced with. All in all it was fun, but not worth the risk of using a toy without a base.
