More Mundane than Magical

The Voila seems to promise magic and glitter, but in the end, it just does what it was designed to do: produce clitoral stimulation and clitoral orgasms. It also recharges, so that's a nifty bonus. I won't be reaching for this one as often as my bullet; but it's a nice stand-by in case of battery-powered toy failure.

extremely useful review
While some have compared the Cal Exotics Voila clitoral vibe to a Ouija board planchette or a little computer mouse, it looks an awful lot like the face of a clueless bird with beady yet compassionate eyes to me. Then again, there was that cock ring that I thought looked like a parakeet, so maybe I'm just inclined to associate my sexy time goodies with creatures of the feathered and beaked nature.

The Voila is a pretty compact piece of vibrating plastic covered in that lovely, silky texture that is characteristic of Velvet cote. The best way to describe its shape, other than "confused looking bird face" and perhaps "chapel-shaped", is that it looks like a rounded square stuck to a rounded triangle. The tip of the triangle has a prominent nub on the underside; this is intended for stimulating the clitoris (or nipples and whatever else you'd like to buzz). On the opposite end is the charging port and two buttons which control the toy.

The charging port is protected from moisture and curious people with paper clips by a piece of clear, flexible rubber. Be sure that the port is covered when not charging to avoid sad accidents while cleaning and taking it into the shower/bath.

The two buttons are covered with the same rubbery material. The buttons are distinguished by the textured markings on the rubber. One sports a square, the other an F. The F, I assume, stands for "Function", since pushing it once will turn the toy onto its first setting, and subsequent punches of the button will lead you through the following sequence:

1. low buzz
2. medium buzz
3. high buzz
4. roller coaster
5. rhythmic thump
6. spastic thump
7. high buzz again
8. back to the beginning

The packaging advertises 7 functions, but it seems to be just six functions plus the highest steady vibration at the very end before it cycles back to the low buzzing. I was a little confused, but since I use the steady vibrations most of the time anyway, I didn't mind the lack of another function to neglect.

The other button is the off button, which will allow you to turn off the toy with a single click no matter where you are or how hilariously embarrassing it would be if your roommate were to walk in on you at that exact moment with a vibrating pink chapel in your hand. This button is marked by a square, possibly because only a square would want to turn this toy off...? You tell me.

The Voila is rechargeable, and though mine came partially charged, it ran out of juice pretty quick. The black charging cable looks a bit like a phone charger. The Voila itself is pretty discreet if you don't know what you're looking at, so between the two components, you could possibly leave this charging out on your nightstand or desk and not many would be overly concerned about it. It takes about three hours to fully charge. An indicator light on the charger will turn from red to green, letting you know that the Voila is ready to go. Once charged, the Voila will last a good number of sessions before needing to be recharged.

Since the toy is made of plastic, it can handle just about any lube you throw at it. After you've had your fun with Voila, scrub it down with some soap and water (make sure you seal off the charging port first!)
Experience
The Voila is a fairly decent clitoral vibe. It took some maneuvering and repositioning to get it to find the spot and stay on the spot for the duration of my self-loving time, but it got the job done and that's what matters. However, it didn't get the job done quite as well as a bullet would have. I suspect the shape is to blame--the Voila is just hard to tuck between my legs the way I like to with most vibrating clit treat. Nonetheless, the vibrations, while not earth-shaking, are reasonably high at their highest and quite mild at their lowest. It doesn't sound like a mixer, either, but does produce a slight whine at the highest speed, if you're worried about roommates or dorm neighbors.
