Encircled With Silicone

The Beginner C-Ring from Tantus is an excellent starter toy for anyone who wants to experiment with penis rings. It can accommodate most men except for the smaller and larger outliers. Made of a safe material, it is durable and can be completely sterilized. Easy to clean and store, it's a low-maintenance, simple ring that is surprisingly effective while being comfortable.

Use

The Beginner C-ring by Tantus, as its name implies, is a penis ring suited to beginners. It is used by first slipping the testicles through the ring and then the (flaccid) penis. This process is greatly assisted by the application of a small amount of lubricant (water-based, please) to the inside of the ring.

The purpose of this sort of toy is to restrict outward blood flow from the penis, causing a more rigid and longer lasting erection and some sensory perks that many people like. It may even cause apparent lengthening during use.

It can be used for intercourse and masturbation. Some people may wear it for longer periods of time under clothing, but I do not recommend this as anything that interferes with circulation can be dangerous if used for a long period of time. 20 minutes is a good limit to set, if only to reassess blood flow.

Because of its larger size and flexible, semi-stretchy material, it should be good for beginners of most sizes. It has no added texture, vibration or odd electrical parts, so it is good for someone new to this type of product (such as myself).

Material / Texture

Like all Tantus silicone toys, the beginner c-ring is made of premium 100& silicone. Body-safe, phthalates-free, odorless, tasteless, non-porous, durable and easy to clean, its got a lot going for it.
This particular toy is velvety smooth to the touch, with a matte appearance. It is only mildly stretchy, as expected of silicone, so don't expect to be able to stretch it very far. I could only stretch it a little because I was trying to put it on at the same time; I found doing both at once to be difficult.

I found the texture to be quite user friendly, as the shinier silicone has the tendency to cling... Which is not very friendly to hair and skin alike if it is going to be worn like this ring is. Of course, it still has some drag, which is relieved by the use of lube.

Like I said before, this toy has no extra bells, whistles or nubby bits. While it lacks extra texture, this makes it more beginner friendly. In terms of sensation, it had a nice presence at the base of the penis and stimulated the perineum just a little, which felt good.
    • No odor
    • Not porous at all
    • Slightly stretchy

Shape / Design / Size / Fit

This toy is well designed and simply so: Thick and durable without being cumbersome or too heavy, and big enough to accommodate both a beginners lack of know-how and up to above average sizes.

I first tried putting it on without any lubrication (that is, against product instructions). It was difficult, but I did manage. It would be easier for someone who has removed all pubic/scrotal hair. It was much easier with a small amount of lubrication, however. Removal is easy as long as the penis is flaccid; attempts while erect proved futile for me.

I did find it comfortable, though it was a bit of a foreign sensation, having never used one before. It could be worn under clothes, though again, I debate the safety of doing so. Again, the slight perineal stimulation was a nice feature.

Again, the size is pretty good for all but the largest and smallest of men. I had some difficulty due to a larger scrotum (further complicated by the presence of a benign, testicle-sized hydrocele) but still managed to wear it comfortably after putting it on. I would say that I am of average size all around, though maybe on the thicker side of things; it was still comfortable for me, though I wouldn't want a smaller ring until I became used to the sensation of this one.

One thing I would like to add is that because of its material, in an emergency it can be cut off. It seems a shame to bring scissors to a Tantus toy, but it really is a good safety feature.
    • Beginner
    • Can fit over both shaft and testicles
    • May be too tight for some

Care and Maintenance

Care for this toy is as simple as caring for any other Tantus silicone product.
Cleaning is as easy as warm water and soap. Since it is not being inserted, there are less things to worry about, but it can be sterilized. Using a 10% bleach solution and washing it off, placing it in the dishwasher, or boiling for three to five minutes should be more than adequate.

As with any silicone, avoid using silicone lubricant unless you've successfully patch-tested it. If a spot test does yield any sort of instant reaction (resulting in a gummy surface that can be scratched off with a fingernail), avoid using that particular lubricant. Tantus has said in the past that Pjur Bodyglide Silicone Lubricant can be used with all of their toys, but caution is still important.

Storage can be achieved with the original packaging if desired, or any number of personal storage choices such as a toy box, cloth bag, etc.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

I received this toy in a plastic clamshell that was surprisingly easy to open. Inside of this molded plastic was the ring itself and a cardboard backing that even included instructions (with pictures)! I was glad, as I've never used one of these products before.
It's not terribly discreet. It's clear, after all.

It could be used for storage if you want to prevent lint from attaching to the surface, but other alternatives exist that may be better.
    • Not discreet
    • Recyclable
    • Very informative

Personal comments

When I originally wrote this review, I was quite new to the realm of penis rings, and perhaps was a little biased due to how foreign they were to me. Since then, I have tried the product more, and have come to like it more. What was originally uncomfortable tightness has become more stimulating, and I realize now that its tightness is how it functions. Being almost an exclusive user penetrative toys until buying this one, I think I wasn't objective in judging this accessory.

In any case, I have grown to like it more.

Experience

As I said before, I am completely new to the use of penis rings. I was feeling adventurous when requesting the assignment from Eden, and wondered why I even chose such a thing.
It took some time for it to grow on me (not literally!) and I now like it more. Though I didn't give it a chance at first, I have found it to provide interesting tactile sensations to the scrotum and perineum at the points where it touches them. Furthermore, it did make my penis appear (and feel) more rigid and prominent... maybe even a little longer.
I have only been able to experience it for masturbation, as I do not have a partner (or toy equivalent such as a masturbator sleeve). Despite this, I feel that it could enhance any of these situations with the erection-enhancing effect. Because of the reduction in outward blood flow, penile tissue is more engorged with blood, which enhances sensation in my mind.

Finally, I did a little test of my own that I hadn't thought of at first... It's not even vaguely scientific, and maybe a little weird. After attaining an erection, I did what I usually do to cause it to go away, a visualization technique. It took about three minutes without the ring. With it, however, it took a little longer than five and a half minutes, which goes to show that it has effects for erection longevity.

While I don't use this accessory all of the time, I do keep it around for when I feel like it. I think it would be useful for someone who has difficulty attaining or maintaining an erection, too, though it might not be tight enough for everybody.
Follow-up commentary
I have to say, since my original review of this product, I have really come to like it more. For use in masturbation or for wearing for a while as-is, it definitely delivers. I've come to want something just a bit tighter, actually, and I wish this one were a bit stretchier. Luckily, Tantus is making a supersoft version of this; check out their website for more information; it's quite inexpensive too.

In any case, my original review was tainted a bit by inexperience and a lack of interest, but I've come to appreciate this product more. I would definitely recommend it for anyone new to this type or product, as it's both beginner-friendly and made of a safe, durable material.

It is supposed to be tight, so that was normal. So you didn't use if for intercourse, just for masturbation? Did it make your erection noticeably stronger? Did it take longer to reach orgasm? Thanks for the review.

I think the connotation by Tantus of "beginners" is incorrect for this ring. My partner has had it for quite awhile, and more then does the job.. It is supposed to be tight and restrictive as that is how a cock ring works. The so called "advanced" rings are usually made of steel and are smaller and therefore tighter.
Lube is important but not too much; he wipes his fingers after applying the lube in order to better manipulate his balls. Sometimes, I put the cock ring on him. My partner says, his ejaculation "feels more intense" using the cock ring and to me, he seems to last longer. Add'l length with the ring? Haven't really noticed.
As with most toys, it gets better with practice. .

    Good review!

Thanks for the comments. To answer your questions, it did strengthen erection and prolong the whole process... Alas, I don't think this sort of thing is for me, though.

Your lack of interest really seemed to come through in the review.

For me a 2 inch diameter doesn't do that much for making my erection noticeably stronger while a 1.5 inch is far to tight, this assumes it is going around both scrotum and cock.

Mm... I requested this assignment as I had never tried this sort of product before, and I thought I might like it. I didn't, and I'm not exactly pleased with myself for letting my indifference to this type of product affect my review quality. I need to be more objective in the future.

Thanks for the review! Finally get to know how men feel wearing a cock ring, I'm debating whether I should get one for my hubby who's not into toys at all, and talk him into using one!

Thanks for the tip on the super soft c ring, right now the only size on their site is in 1.5" unstretched, guess I'll hold out for a larger softer one.
