"SM101: A Realistic Introduction" Realistic indeed, Sir. :]

I very much think that 'SM101: A Realistic Introduction' is worth it, and would be a good purchase for anyone who is interested in learning more about the BDSM lifestyle, whether they are looking for information on all of it in general, or just some parts like a bondage or D/s or whatnot. I love the authors tone throughout the majority of this book; it is more personal and humorous than the textbook dryness most expect from something informative.
Published:
Pros
Informative; helpful; humorous and not dry like a lot of educational books out there.
Cons
None! Would be even nicer if there was a hardback copy available, but doesn't take AWAY from it.

About author

The author's tone in his book was wonderful. A pleasant surprise for someone opening this book and preparing themselves for a boring yet insightful read!

Content / Style / Audience

'SM101: A Realistic Introduction' is geared towards a BDSM/fetish audience; unlike a lot of the BDSM-oriented books on this site, 'SM101' is not an erotica, but-as it says-an introduction. It's an instructional book based on telling people about SSC(safe, sane, and consensual) practices of BDSM. The different parts of this book cover various "parts" of the lifestyle, including bondage, Dominance/submission, and sadism/masochism, and goes into different aspects of each. Though, whereas it's an educational piece of writing, the author also goes about it with humor and good nature alongside his teaching; definitely a great method for keeping his readers...well, reading! 'SM101' is definitely directed at those who are into, or even moreso interested in the BDSM lifestyle who wish to learn more about how to go about it, what to expect, etc.

Design

I love the look of this book - simple and appealing, but not too openly sexual. The cover is in black and white, with the title in large, bold lettering along the bottom, with a picture of a hand clenched around what looks like a nice riding crop. Again, simple yet appealing...to me, at least. Though I can say, that a hardback version with the same cover would be so lovely! The way the actual book is set up is nicely categorized in the index, and I think my favorite part just may be the little boxes on the sides of most or all of the pages. They have silly little quote in them! Some of the quotes are from the book itself, but most of them are quotes from the author and people he has met and spoken to throughout his "journey" in the BDSM lifestyle. A lot of them even made me giggle out loud!
    • Soft cover
    • Well made

Personal comments

I am a submissive myself, but both myself and my Dominant being new to the lifestyle, we purchased 'SM101: A Realistic Introduction' to help us along the way, and can both say we were quite pleased with this book!!

Experience

For the first month of mine and my mans Dom/sub relationship, we were in different states; I bought this book a couple weeks before He moved back in with me, and we would skype every night...well, after I got 'SM101,' I started reading it out loud to Him over our skype call, a little bit every night. And once He and I were back in the same house, we continued reading it, sometimes to each other and other times by ourselves. We each seem to have different "favorite" sections of this book, but overall we both loved it and learned plenty.
