Light scent that smells wonderful, performs great, but comes with a steep price tag. If it goes on sale, buy it, but have another (empty) bottle on hand to dump the Venus into because the stock bottle is awful.
Venus body wash is just that, a body wash, although it's also supposed to hydrate your skin as well. You're only supposed to need a little bit and just put it on the loofah and lather up. What it's designed to do, it does great...I smelled great and it cleaned me up well. There are plenty of scents for anyone to find their favorite. I chose the cucumber-melon and it smells lovely. I'll skip the list of ingredients because those can be found on the product page. It's made in the USA and not tested on animals.
Venus seems to have the consistency of most other brands of body wash. The only thing I have on hand right now to compare to is Bath & Body Works and it's pretty similar. Also, it's pretty similar in viscosity to liquid hand soap. Venus feels nice and silky when lathered and applied to the body, but it didn't really generate a lot of lather. The texture and consistency were predictable and I was met with no surprises; Venus seemed like a run-of-the-mill body wash. The cucumber-melon scent is a nice pale shade of green, think green Jolly Rancher color.
Venus has many scent options, but I chose the cucumber-melon. Usually, I use baby body wash because the scent of most body washes is just too strong for me. As I opened the bottle of Venus, I was very pleasantly surprised that it was not overwhelmingly perfumed. It's a very nice, light scent--heavy on the melon with a dash of cucumber thrown in. I suppose it's similar to other manufacturers' cucumber-melon lines, but much less strong of a scent. It's actually very nice, for me. If you are used to very strong scented body washes, you may be disappointed in Venus' aroma. If however, you are looking for a gentle scent and often can't handle heavily scented body washes, Venus might be what you've been looking for!
Another thing that I liked about Venus is that the scent didn't hang around after my shower. I couldn't smell it on my skin after drying off and getting dressed. For me, that's really cool. I can't stand smelling like a tub of body wash. If I buy Venus again, it's for the light scent more than anything.
The cucumber-melon Venus was very nice to use. I enjoyed the light, yet fresh, scent of the body wash. It didn't lather up as much as I expected it to, but I wasn't disappointed. Sometimes body washes just lather and froth up TOO much, ya know? I have been using about a nickel to a quarter sized amount and it does a fine job. It gets me clean and smells great!
Here's where the aggravation sets in. The bottle is ridiculous! There is no flip-top cap or pump that comes with Venus; you have to open the cap and pour it out. I mean, sure, as a product on a shelf it looks beautiful. Once you hop in the shower and you're soaking wet, trying to get the cap off and then pour the product onto a loofah without pouring a TON of it out is annoying. After you get some Venus on your loofah, you still have to put the cap back on and then back on the shelf (or whatever is in your shower). If I'm paying for a luxury product (and yes, I consider a $15 body wash a luxury) then I expect a well designed bottle. I was so annoyed that I dumped it into another bottle that had a little pop-up cap. I just don't understand why the manufacturer decided to opt for a screw on/off cap. At least throw in a pump dispenser or something!
In all honesty, I wouldn't buy this unless it's on sale at some point in the future. The bottle design frustrated me so much, which could be worked around by pouring the contents into an empty bottle, but for nearly $15 no way. Venus smells great, but so do many other cheaper brands. If I were blindfolded, I would not be able to tell the difference between this and a cheaper product (unless I had the bottle in hand). The light scent is the one thing that might keep me coming back for more though. I do like how it's made in the USA and not tested on animals.
Because of the poorly designed bottle and hefty price tag, I'm only going to rate this at 3 stars. I do love the light scent, which is why it's up to a 3. I just think that for $15, you can do better. It's not a bad product by any means, just not a $15 product.
Here's a man's input, are you ready for this? My husband used it once and said it was the same as every other body wash. It's soap. It lathers and cleans you up. That's all I got out of him. Hahaha that's why he doesn't do reviews.
Follow-up commentaryI still like it10 months after original review
Well I used the entire bottle of the body wash and I do wish I had more. I really do miss having the light scent in a body wash. Although the bottle annoyed me, I found a way around it by just transferring the contents into a better bottle. $15 for a bottle of body wash though just seems preposterous to me and I refuse to pay that much. Half price? Sure, I'm in. Full price though, not happening....I can almost buy an entire case of beer for that price. Just a thought.
