Glistening dry shampoo and body powder by Cake Beauty - review by Eva Schwaltz

My Saviour

This Dry Shampoo and Body Powder is a great investment if you can’t or just don’t want to wash your hair. Maybe you’ve had an operation so it’s not a good idea for you to get soaked. For whatever reason, this powder will keep your hair looking clean, and is not harsh on the hair.
Good for all hair colors and types, easy to pour, light scent

extremely useful review

I’ve enjoyed every Cake Beauty product I’ve tried so far, and I really needed a dry shampoo so I eagerly picked up the Glistening Dry Shampoo and Body Powder. It will help dry out the oils in your hair and give it a glistening shine.

There are two people in my building who take extremely long showers so it’s not surprising that the boiler breaks down. I hate cold showers and I really needed to do something about my hair, and I’m glad to report this powder is wonderful. My hair doesn’t get very greasy but I am self-conscious about the smell of my hair if I haven’t used shampoo.

You need to get this as close to your roots as possible. Instead of sprinkle my entire head with this stuff, I divide my hair into sections. First, I flip my hair so it covers my face. I sprinkle a bit of the powder in my hand and rub it in on the back left, then I do the same for the back right. Then I flip my hair back to the back and focus on the left, then the right. I use about a teaspoon of powder for each section.

Ingredients: Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Silica, Parfum (Fragrance), Caprylyl Glycol, Proylene Glycol, Aqua (Water), Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This is just a powder. It’s very fine, I’d even say finer than baby powder. When I use it in my hair, it feels like nothing has been added at all. It’s extremely light. It doesn’t clump up easily but you’ll still want to avoid getting liquids inside the container. If you plan on bringing it for your travels, keep it in a plastic bag or one of those waterproof cosmetic bags. You may even want to put tape over the lid to prevent it from opening and leaking powder everywhere.

Taste / Aroma

Smelling it from the container, it smells like lemons, but once added to my hair, I don’t even notice it. This company normally does sweet fragrances, so I was surprised at the bitterness of this powder. I guess if you were camping, you wouldn’t want a sweet smell to attract all the bugs.

I use Aussie shampoo and conditioner, so I’m not used to lemon scents in my hair, but at least this stuff works.

I know that if our boiler breaks down, or if I am going to be without a shower for a certain amount of time, that I can rely on this to make my hair look clean. However, I wouldn’t use this as an actual substitute for washing and shampooing the hair.

This will work for any hair colors. You can even use it on your face for a little hint of shine. There’s two ways you can dispense the powder. There’s a large hole for pouring the powder, and tiny holes for sprinkling. When you first get it, there’s a sticker that covers the holes, then you have to remove the cap to open the can. This part is really difficult to open. I want to say the b word but I don’t want to offend anyone but it’s tough. I had to use a sharp knife to open it up, nails are most likely not going to be able to do this. Then you put the cap back on and spin it around to open and close it. It’s similar to some of those parmesan cheese containers.

You get 1.7 ounces of powder which will probably last a while for me, but some people like to alternate by washing their hair one day, then using this the next day which I would consider frequent use. I think it’s always good to have something like this on hand, so check it out and see if you like it.
