Peppermint Patty Lips

If you're looking for a lip plumper, you may want to keep looking. However, if you're looking for an overall well scented lip gloss that leaves your lips feeling silky smooth and lasts a long time, go ahead and pick a flavor.

Use

This particular gloss is meant to "soften lips with Shea Butter and Vitamin E, while plumping ingredients Ginger Root Oil and Chili Fruit Extract increase lip volume for a fuller, sexier, more kissable pout." While my lips were noticeably softer, I didn't notice any plumping. As a plain ol' gloss, this is still a nice purchase though.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This particular gloss seems to be about the same consistency as just about every other gloss I've had the privilege of using in the past. It stays in the container if you were to turn it upside down and spreads out on the lips smoothly. It feels silky on the lips, but may feel a bit tacky to the touch. There are fine glitter particles in the gloss as well, although those aren't able to be felt. I also haven't found that they get all over everything like glitter normally does. In the tube, mine has a distinct pinkish hue, but it goes on clear and doesn't leave anything pink.

Taste / Aroma

This comes in a few different scents: peppermint, pomegranate/vanilla, pear, passion fruit, berry/honey, and cinnamon. This review is about the peppermint scent and it's pretty dead on for peppermint. Sniffing the tube reminds me a lot of a York Peppermint Patty and everybody I've asked has said the same thing. The scent is strong at first, but still only noticeable if you're close enough to be kissing. I noticed that it had a slightly minty taste at first, but it seemed like more of a side effect of the peppermint in the gloss.

Performance

As just a gloss, this performed really well. My regular chapstick will normally last me an hour or two, and this easily lasts twice that. The big allure to this gloss is that it's supposed to help plump your lips. From what I've read about plumping glosses, this also usually involves a slight burning sensation. I experienced that for a few moments the second time I put the gloss on and maybe once or twice since then. What I do get almost every time is a cool tingling, much like biting into a peppermint patty, that I attribute to the peppermint. This cooling feeling doesn't last too long though, maybe 15 or 20 minutes tops, and I'm left with kissably soft lips for hours. Any plumping this gloss gives my lips is negligible, although on very thin lips it may be more noticeable.

Packaging

The box is just barely bigger than the .14 fluid ounce tube. In that small amount of space it manages to tell you that it's an aphrodisiac plumping gloss named "kissaholic" by Booty Parlor. Nothing about it is terribly risque.

It also has a long list of ingreidents: mineral oil, polybutene, butylene/ethylene/styrene copolymer, ethylene/propylene/styrene copolymer, flavor (aroma), caprylyl glycol, isopentyldiol, mentha arvensis leaf oil, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, tocopheryl acetate, hydrogenate polyisobutene, capsicum frutescens fruit extract, glycine soja (soybean) oil, zingiber officinale (ginger) root oil, methyl nicotinate, castor oil bis-hydroxypropyl dimethicone esters, sodium saccharin, ethyl methane carboxamide, c12-15 alkyl benzoate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, phenylethylamine, ptychopetalum olacoides bark extract, isohexadecane, vitis vinifera (grape) seed oil, calcium sodium borosilicate, carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, gingko biloba leaf extract, turnera diffusa leaf extract, passiflora incarnata flower extract, zingiber officinale (ginger) root powder, phenoxyethanol, benzyl benzoate, geraniol, benzyl alcohol, benzyl salicylate, eugenol, isoeugenol, linalool, cinnamal, limonene. May also contain Mica, titanium dioxide, iron oxides, carmine, red 6 lake, red 7 lake, red 27 lake, bismuth oxychloride, red 28 lake, red 21, yellow 5 lake, manganse violet, and tin oxide.

Personal comments

I know that all of those ingredients look pretty scary right off the bat, so I went on over to Skin Deep to investigate them a little further for you.

Mineral oil, caprylyl glycol, mentha arvensis leaf oil, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, tocopheryl acetate, glycine soja (soybean) oil, zingiber officinale (ginger) root oil, methyl nicotinate, castor oil bis-hydroxypropyl dimethicone esters, c12-15 alkyl benzoate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, isohexadecane, vitis vinifera (grape) seed oil, carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, turnera diffusa leaf extract, passiflora incarnata flower extract, and zingiber officinale (ginger) root powder are all listed as skin conditioning agents.

Polybutene, ethylene/propylene/styrene copolymer and butylene/ethylene/styrene copolymer, and hydrogenate polyisobutene are all agents used to create the slightly gel like consistency of the gloss.

Phenoxyethanol, benzyl alcohol, and benzyl benzoate are preservatives.

Geraniol, isoeugenol, eugenol, linalool, cinnamal are listed as fragrance ingredients.

Flavor (aroma), isopentyldiol is just listed as a diol, capsicum frutescens fruit extract is used to plump the lips, sodium saccharin is an artificial sweetener, ethyl methane carboxamide and phenylethylamine don't have anything listed, ptychopetalum olacoides bark extract is an emollient, calcium sodium borosilicate is a bulking agent, ginkgo biloba leaf extract is commonly found in lots of other face products, benzyl salicylate is a UV light absorber, limonene is listed as a skin sensitizer. May also contain Mica, titanium dioxide is a colorant and UV light absorber, iron oxides, carmine, red 6 lake, red 7 lake, red 27 lake, bismuth oxychloride, red 28 lake, red 21, yellow 5 lake, manganse violet, and tin oxide.

Experience

I really like this as an overall gloss, although I prefer the Kama Sutra gloss over this one for the applicator. That one has the weird sponge type tip and this one has a small brush. That's mostly nitpicking though. I like the fact that there isn't any burning sensations, and I've actually grown fond of the cooling tingles. My husband doesn't really like the consistency on his lips, but he does like that it doesn't leave marks behind.

I settled on a 4 star rating because it doesn't seem to really do what it advertises (the plumping), but all in all it's still a quality lip gloss.

Thank you for sharing. I love lip gloss but, don't wear it as often as I'd like. I should try this with my next order.
