Defense protection lubricant - lubricant discontinued by Intimate Organics - review by ~LaUr3n~

Intimate Organics has some of my favorite lubricants. I've also got the original, Melt, Heal, and the Soothe lubricant that they have. The four together cover ever usage and need possible and does so in a very safe way. Defense is an incredibly unique lubricant. I've had my bottle for about three years now and I can say I'm very happy with it. It contains a lot of really awesome ingredients and is certified organic. It is water based and safe for use with condoms. This lubricant feels incredibly natural and helps to defend the body against bacteria to reduce the chances of yeast infections. It also contains sea kelp and caarrageean to help fight off contraction of HPV. How cool is that? It is not tested on animals, and it is vegan safe!

The ingredients are all certified organic and are as follows:

Aqua (Water), Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan), Phenoxyethanol, Benzoic Acid, Phenethyl Alcohol, PPG-2 Methyl Ether, Methylisothiazolinone, Psidium Guajava Fruit Extract, Alcohol, Lycium Barbarum Fruit Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract, Aloe Barbedensis Leaf Extract, Sodium Hydroxide.

Break down of ingredients:

~Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan - Irish moss): Per the product page "A recent study conducted by researchers from The National Cancer Institute (NCI) found that -- in a test tube -- carrageenan, as an ingredient, inhibits the infectious ability of viruses that cause cervical cancer and genital warts. The NCI findings, as reported in a peer-reviewed journal published by The Public Library of Science, are being studied for its potential impact in combating the spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)". This is ingredient is a red algae.
~Phenoxyethanol: fragrance and preservative
~Benzoic Acid: preservative, naturally occurring in plants and animals
~Phenethyl Alcohol: Gives the lubricant a floral odor
~PPG-2 Methyl Ether: solvent
~Methylisothiazolinone: preservative
~Psidium Guajava Fruit Extract: "Guava Bark - is used in the Amazon as a douche to treat and prevent yeast infections. In Brazil guava is considered an astringent". Skin conditioner
~Lycium Barbarum Fruit Extract (Wolfberry): skin conditioning, rejuvenation
~Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract (lemon grass): skin conditioner, soother
~Aloe Barbedensis Leaf Extract: Analgesic - pain reliever,Skin-Conditioning, Fights bacteris

Those ingredients may sound like harmful chemicals, but really they are natural organic ones safe for you and the environment. Notice that this lubricant contains no parabens or glycerin.

This is a water based lubricant and is on the thinner side. It spreads very easily and isn't what I would describe as runny, but it doesn't feel like silicone. It is smooth and silky and easy to pour. It stays put well as long as you don't use too much. It doesn't feel greasy or sticky ever. For some reason, though, it will leave a flaky residue on toys and external skin after it dries. It easily washed off.

Like the other Intimate Organic lubricants Defense has a very unique smell. It smells like roses. It's not for everyone, but I rather enjoy it. It's very natural smelling and not at all artificial. The smell lingers on the skin too which I don't mind at all. The label says that this is safe to ingest. If it is licked it doesn't have a taste.

When I rubbed it on the backside of my hand, it took about 2 minutes to absorb as if it were never there. This lubricant works best when you already have some natural lubricant going on. When added to that it lasts much much longer. It may need to be reapplied for use with porous and soft materials or long sex sessions. It absorbs into the skin after use. It's easy to forget I even applied lubricant during sex, it's that natural feeling. It doesn't gum up or make us feel nasty at all. With toys, it's best for harder and or non-porous materials.

It's okay for anal toys that aren't extremely textured or large. It's good for most of my anal toy collection and is great for silicone toys because it won't harm them. I don't recommend it as an anal lubricant because it isn't very thick. I like to make that act as easy as possible. However, due to its awesome ingredients, it has some pro qualities for that. My partner and I didn't have any irritation and found that it washes off easily.

The bottle is a hard and dark green plastic. It has a sexy picture of a fit woman's torso on the front and says the company, name of the product as well as a certified USDA organic stamp. The bottle top opens like suntan lotion, a push down to pop open top. It hasn't leak at all. The back has the ingredients and a blurb about the product. It is made in Canada. It also says that is it not tested on animals, is recyclable, and has an expiration date (on the box the bottle comes in). It says that it will expire in 03/2013 ans was manufactured 02/2010, so this will last a long time, if it takes you a while to use it. You need to use about a penny drop for average use so the 4 fluid ounce bottle should last. I have the 2 ounce bottle and it came in an additional box with the same info and pictures as the bottle. It looks like travel shampoo so it is relatively discreet.
