Defense is a water-based lubricant from Intimate Organics. I'm personally a huge fan of Intimate Organics products and this lube is no different. The lube is excellent for vaginal intercourse or sessions with toys. It can also be used for oral sex but it is not flavored so some users may not find it is their favorite for oral. It can be used for anal intercourse but it is not as thick as traditional anal lubricants. Intimate Organics actually makes a specific anal lube that has received fabulous reviews and has the same high quality ingredients as the Defense. This lube, being water-based, is safe to use with latex condoms and is safe to use with any toy material. It will not break down the material of silicone toys, which is fantastic.

The Defense lube is formulated with sea kelp and guava bark. Sea kelp is an anti-inflammatory and has anti-viral properties. Guava bark has been used as an astringent, which can soothe minor skin irritation. These ingredients, combined with the other extracts, give this lube one spectacular quality -- it can help prevent infections and soothe unhappy vaginas. I feel it goes without saying that this isn't a miracle lube that will prevent any and all nasty infections; it just provides an extra element of prevention. Those prone to yeast infections may find this reduces the number or severity of their infections. It's worth noting that the ingredients will not interfere with your body's natural healthy microflora.

So what does this all mean? It means that Defense is certified organic by USDA Organic standards, paraben free, DEA free, glycerine free, vegan friendly, and naturally derived. Sounds good to me.

The Defense has a really great consistency and texture. It's not as thick as a silicone lube or gel. It's thicker than water but is still really smooth, slick, and easy to spread. It feels very natural and reminds me a lot of a woman's natural lubrication. In use, it blends seamlessly with my natural lubrication and does not feel artificial at all. Some lubes I've used feel sticky, greasy, or dry out easily in use. Other lubes I've used end up beading on my silicone toys and form sticky patches, which is a major annoyance. Defense is not greasy or sticky at all. I've experienced no problems with it drying out in use but I have yet to use it for extended periods of time (25+ minutes). If it does dry out, you can easily reapply more lube or add a small amount of water to reactivate it. It can be runny upon application when there is a lot applied to one area. Once it is spread out, it stays in place. When I apply some to my hand, it will run down my hand in a few seconds but once I spread it around my palm, it stays put.

I love this lube because it dries and absorbs into skin completely. Unlike some lubes, I don't feel the need to scrub it off after use. It absorbs into my skin without leaving a sticky, greasy residue. My partner has a tendency to wipe excess lube off his hands onto my skin and after a few minutes, I can't even tell where he rubbed his hands. All that's left is a light rose scent.

With such earthy ingredients, the pleasant rose scent was a surprise. Defense smells like a true rose bush, not an artificial rose scent concocted by a mad scientist. It's definitely not an overpowering fake floral scent. This scent may be a little too overpowering for some people who are sensitive to scents but I found it to be pretty light and enjoyable. Defense isn't a flavored lube so it doesn't have a specific taste. I did try tasting this and I couldn't pinpoint a specific taste. If anything, it has a light medicinal taste to it but it shouldn't be unpleasant to most people. It is safe to ingest.

I absolutely love this lubricant. It performs beautifully. I've already talked about how well it performs but let me reiterate, I don't think I can say enough about this. It isn't sticky or greasy at all. It blends well with my natural lubrication and I can't even tell I'm using lube. It's like they bottled natural female lubrication and added anti-viral, anti-inflammatory ingredients. It absorbs into skin, meaning you don't need to run to the shower to scrub it off your skin. I absolutely love this lube. For everyday use, it's my go-to lube. Those looking for a thick, cushy lube for anal use may wish to look into other Intimate Organics lubes.

The Defense comes packaged in a small, green cardboard box. The box has information about the properties of the lube, the ingredients, and directions for use. The box features the wet, naked torso and underswell of a woman's breast that I have come to associate with Intimate Organics products. It's not the most discreet box but it is far from trashy packaging.

Inside the box is a small, 4 oz (120 mL) plastic bottle. It may seem that the small amount of lube isn't worth the price but I guarantee you, a little bit goes a long way and it is definitely worth it. The bottle has a push-top lid that is easy to open with one hand. I've never experienced any leaking with this bottle, which is fantastic. The bottle does require a good squeeze to dispense the product, but it is still easy enough to dispense with one hand.
