Not Quite Up to the Task

This is an organic, non-irritating lubricant that did not work very well for me as a sexual lubricant, but may work well as a moisturizer for women with general vaginal dryness. The subtle smell is close to the smell and texture of my own vaginal fluid, with a slightly medicinal scent, but I found it too thin and runny to use easily and had difficulty coating toys with it. I have to use so much of it and reapply it so often that it's really not worth it for me.

Use

This is an organic personal lubricant meant to be used for general vaginal dryness, or as a lubricant to aid comfortable and enjoyable masturbation and sexual intercourse. It's water-based and is compatible with latex condoms and silicone toys.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This lubricant is very runny. It's not quite as thin as water, but in comparison to something such as Astroglide, it's definitely thinner.

Runniness

This photo was taken roughly 3 seconds after applying a dot of the lubricant to the back of my hand. You can see how runny it is - it took me a few tries to snap the photo fast enough.

The lube is initially somewhat slick - but not as much as I'd like. It feels more like a lotion or moisturizer than a lube to me - think something like Cetaphil. I find that it absorbs into my skin very quickly - maybe after even a minute or two. It never becomes sticky or gummy; it simply absorbs into my skin and leaves it soft.

I would not even attempt to use this lube anally as it is far too thin and it's virtually impossible for me to evenly coat a toy with it.

Taste / Aroma

The aroma is subtle. I would describe it as something like a combination of "clean ladyparts" and "medicinal/herbal/fresh grass clippings". Kind of like if I scooted across the lawn, or something. It's not unpleasant at all, just not what I expect from a lubricant. It doesn't linger very long and my own subtle natural smell overcomes it. If you're sensitive to scents and perfumes, I don't think it will bug you.

It is virtually tasteless.

Performance

My skin and genitals absorb this lubricant almost instantly. When using it while masturbating or having sex, I have to use a ton. I think I went through 1/5 of the bottle during one session alone. It doesn't get sticky, it just gets absorbed - but if you really need a good, slick lube because your toy has a lot of drag or your partner is large, this stuff doesn't cut it. On the other hand, if you need just a little bit of help, or want a lube that feels very natural this is probably the most "natural-feeling" lube I've tried. It feels the most like my own natural lubricant - even if it isn't super slick and doesn't last very long for me.

I have found that it doesn't irritate/burn/itch like some water-based lubes do. If you are super sensitive and don't need industrial-strength lube, this one may be a good option for you. While it wasn't quite up to the task for me, it might be good for women who have general vaginal dryness issues and need moisture throughout the day, but not necessarily a sex lubricant.

I found the runniness to be an issue when applying this lubricant to toys. It drips everywhere and won't stay on the toy, and it doesn't distribute evenly.

It's easy to clean up - generally it just absorbs into my skin or genitals and leaves them feeling soft. Soap and water should do the trick. I did find that it interacted with my toy cleaner in the sense that it got kind of a "gritty" feel, so I definitely needed to wash those with soap and water. There's no real need to wash it off after sex, though.

I did not attempt to use this lubricant anally as I found it far too thin and barely adequate even vaginally.
    • Absorbs into skin nicely
    • Dries up too fast
    • Reapply often

Packaging

This lubricant comes in a dark green plastic bottle that says "DEFENSE Protection Lubricant". The label isn't super discreet, but unless anybody stops to examine and read it, it will probably just look like lotion or soap. The label is easily peeled off, in which case it definitely just looks like a bottle of hand lotion. The neck of the bottle was sealed with foil, so you can tell that nobody tampered with or contaminated your lubricant before you open it.

The back of the bottle contains plenty of information about the lubricant - an ingredient list, a short explanation of how the ingredients are beneficial, and some simple directions on how to use it (as if you need them).

The bottle has a snap top lid that I don't like very much. You push down one side to pop the other side open. This means you can open it with one hand. The opening is too large for how runny it is and when I dispense it a lot of times I accidentally dispense too much. I don't feel like it would travel very well just because of the risk that the snap top would get pushed down and lube would squirt everywhere.
    • Can be opened with one hand
    • Messy dispenser
    • Very informative packaging

Special Features

This lubricant is certified organic, in case you're concerned about chemicals and parabens. That's one of the reasons I selected it. According to the label, it has carageenan and natural anti-bacterial extracts, and is latex condom friendly.

Personal comments

I'm not impressed with this lubricant as far as a sex lube goes, but I definitely see how it could be useful as a vaginal moisturizer for a woman who suffers from vaginal dryness throughout the day. This lubricant would actually be great for that. Many lubricants irritate me, including popular picks such as Astroglide, and this one did not. If you're willing to deal with the performance issues in return for a lube that doesn't itch, you may want to give this one a try.

Experience

When I first got this lubricant, I was excited. It was organic, didn't contain any of the ingredients that irritate my vagina, and had received some good reviews. I pulled the foil off, screwed the lid back on, and squeezed the bottle slightly.

Rather than dispensing the dot of lube I'd expected, lube squirted everywhere and ran down the side of the bottle. I immediately hated both the consistency of the lube and the dispenser, but found the subtle smell oddly pleasant and reminiscent of my own personal smell.

It's so runny that I had a difficult time applying it to the silicone toy I was testing it with, and it's so thin that I couldn't coat the toy evenly. Even after applying a generous amount to my genitals, I found it inadequate for my needs. I had to reapply it several times even during a short session, and I used a great deal of it as well. It's only slightly better with a living, breathing partner - possibly because of the smoothness and give of a real penis - but despite the fact that it's latex condom compatible, I immediately tossed the idea of trying to use it with a condom. I already knew it wasn't up to that task.
Follow-up commentary
Despite the fact that I have to use this lube in such large quantities for it to be useful at all, I still haven't used the entire bottle. I dislike it that much. I use a squirt, and 30 seconds later it's dry again. I've also come to gradually dislike the smell more and more, and it leaves a white residue on everything it dries on. Blech.

Great review sorry it didn't work for you. It sounds like a good lube if it would last a little longer and were just a bit thicker.
