I Could Use A Little More Boost!

The Satin Bustier from Coquette is surprisingly neither satin nor a bustier, but it is still pretty snazzy if it fits your body type.

extremely useful review
This bustier is available in 5 sizes, ranging from Small to 1X/2X. I went with the XL, which according to Coquette's size chart should fit sizes 14-16, D cup, 42-44" bust, 34-36" waist and 44-46" hips. I was a bit worried about fit since I'm mostly smaller than the chart at 5'11", size 11/12, 38 D, 33" waist, 40" hips, 155-160. I've had problems with lingerie fitting my boobs so much in the past though that I went for the best fit there. One of the down sides of being the first to review new lingerie is not having any past reviewers to tell you if it runs small or large! This ended up being much too large for me (bustiers should not be baggy!) everywhere except for the bust, which barely fit. Bummer!

As far as packaging, the bustier came wrapped in a plastic bag on a plastic hanger printed with the Coquette name. I love the padded hangers that a lot of Coquette items come on, so while the inclusion of a hanger was nice, the cheap plastic kind that came with this just doesn't hold a candle to the pretty plush ones that come with other items! The bustier includes removable garters and bra straps, but none of the other accessories/items shown in the photo. These were in an attached plastic bag.

There is a care tag sewn inside the top back, which you will probably want to cut out since the tag is white and the black mesh is see-through! The tag suggests hand washing and hanging to dry. Although the item is called Satin Bustier, there is no satin involved, it's 82% nylon, 18% spandex.

One thing that surprised me is that the black part of the bustier is see-through mesh- it looks pretty solid in the photo! It isn't like you can see everything through it, but it's definitely transparent. The only non-mesh parts are the pink side panels and the black covering the bust. The inside is another layer of the black mesh, which isn't exactly silky against the skin, but isn't scratchy, either. (The lace that decorates the bust and hemlines is pretty scratchy, though, so be gentle if you'll be rubbing your body up against an delicate parts of your partner while wearing this!)

The bustier fastens up the back with hook and eye closures similar to the back of a bra, but with 17 sets instead of two or three. There are 3 rows you can choose to hook onto, so you have the option of making the bustier about an inch tighter or looser depending on which you choose. The bust area has no underwires or padding, and as a result provides no support. I'm a little confused by that- isn't a bustier, by definition, supposed to boost your bust? Plastic boning is sewn into the lining at 11 locations, but I couldn't really evaluate if it does anything to pull you in since the item was too big. Like many other Coquette lingerie, there is a thick elastic band at the waist to help give you an hourglass shape.

A few measurements: (these are for the XL)
15" from the center of the bust down to the hem, or 17" if you count the lace at the bottom.
15 1/2" down the back where it hooks.
34" across the elastic waist band when laid flat. (This is kind of odd given that the size chart says 34-36" waist!)
Each "cup" of the bust is 7" deep.

The model in the photo must be quite short, since this barely comes down to the top of my pants, not mid-hip where it seems to in the photo! As a result, it gives me a pretty short torso appearance, which isn't as flattering. Just something to keep in mind if you're tall!
Experience
I can't decide if I want to trade this in for the next smaller size or just return it for something different, since I'm not sure my boobs would fit in the large.

This isn't my favorite of Coquette's corset/bustier designs, but I don't dislike it, either. If I had to pick, I would suggest the Polka Dot Mesh Corset or Pink Stretch Lace Corset over this item, though. If you already have those, this would be a lovely addition to your lingerie collection if you want some more variety.

The fabric is super stretchy, so you can probably fit into this even if you're a bit above the numbers on the size chart.

I love the pink ribbon through the lace detail, but I HATE the black stitching along the elastic band that you can see on the pink side panels. Since someone just looking at the bustier from the outside wouldn't know the zig-zag stitch is holding the elastic in place, it just looks like there are random lines across your pretty pink fabric. Weird design choice!

Overall, this is a nice quality bustier that would be great in or out of the bedroom, but it does have a few design flaws (especially the bust support) that keep it from being outstanding. If I do end up trading it in for the large, I'll follow up with the differences in measurements and fit!
