Order a Size Down

I comfortably wear a size XL with Coquette items but the new wet look pieces seem to be a bit larger. The Wet Look Boned Bustier by Coquette doesn't fit my chest very well and is not as tight as it should be. Other than the sizing issue- it's attractive, comfortable, and inexpensive. I'd definitely recommend this bustier to others but would also recommend ordering a size down.

The Wet Look Boned Bustier by Coquette is available in sizes S-1X/2X. I purchased the size XL. I purchased this piece along with the matching skirt, but the skirt didn’t work to well for me. I really like the buckle look so I had to have it.

The bustier arrived in the regular Coquette packaging- a clear plastic bag with a small barcode sticker in the corner. There was a cardboard tag attached to the bustier that states the company name, website, product name, size, colour, and had a few photos of a model wearing the piece with suggestions on what you could accessorize with (products made by the company). I keep my bustier hanging in my closet.

The bustier is 80% nylon and 20% spandex (exclusive of trim). The material is very stretchy and does not become sheer the more it needs to be stretched. The buckles, eyelets, and zipper are a silver coloured metal and the rest of the bustier is black.

I’ve taken a few measurements of the bustier but if you need additional measurements, let me know and I can get them for you. The measurements were taken with the bustier laying flat, unstretched.

Chest unstretched (armpit to armpit): 15 ½ inches
Chest stretched as much as I could (armpit to armpit): 29 inches
Cup length: 7 inches
Cup width: 7 ¾ inches
Length of bustier (taken down side): 11 ¾ inches
Width at bottom if bustier: 15 inches
Adjustable shoulder strap length: 13 ¾ - 23 inches

There are 6 plastic boning pieces to the bustier: 2 down the front (1 on each side of the buckled area), 1 on each side of the bustier, and 1 boning piece stemming off of each boning piece at either side of the bustier. These bones that stem from the side boning start about 3 ¼ inches below the top of the side bone, and slant towards the front of the piece. At the very bottom of the bustier, the distance between the two boning pieces (the side bone and the one stemming off if it) is approximately 2 inches.

The only closure to the bustier is the zipper down the centre back so the only way to adjust the width is by stretching the material to the bustier. The zipper has a fairly large circular pull-tab. The diameter of the tab is 1 inch. On the inside of this area there is a flap of fabric covering the inside of the zipper so it doesn’t sit against the skin.

The shoulder straps to the piece are not detachable but you can adjust the length with the plastic tab (similar to a bra strap). At the front of each strap there is a square metal piece and eyelet. It looks like a belt but it’s just for looks. You don’t adjust the straps with this.

The same goes for the three buckles at the front of the piece. These buckles are just for appearance- they do not adjust the width of the bustier. The top belt has 5 eyelets while the bottom two have 3. You can move the rectangular metal piece to whichever eyelet you would like it to sit at.

The cups to the bustier have underwire and padding in them. I wear a C cup and when I was wearing the piece, it felt as though my chest was swimming in the top. The XL is much better suited for a D cup. Typically the XL Coquette pieces fit my C cups fine but it seems as though the new wet-look pieces have larger cups to them. I had the same issue with the wet look bustier that I had reviewed.

Another thing about the new wet look items (at least from my experience anyway) is that because the material is so darn stretchy, I should have ordered a size down (large instead of extra large). The back of this bustier has no boning pieces in it and because the bustier is not as tight as it could be on me, the bottom of the zipper flips upwards (and sometimes inwards) while I’m wearing it.

Putting the bustier on by myself was very easy. I did the zipper closure up at the front of my body and then turned the piece around so that the zipper sat at the back of my body. The stretch to the material makes it extremely easy to do up by yourself if you do not have a partner or friend around to help you. Also, the material is so darn stretchy that I was able to take the piece off by pulling it over my head without undoing the zipper closure. I absolutely recommend ordering a size down.
Experience
...continued

You can see a couple photos of me wearing the bustier below. You’ll notice that in the first photo at the top of each cup, there is a bulged area. I’m pretty sure this is because the cups are just too large for me and I don’t fill them.

IMG

The length of the bustier worked fairly well for me. It covers most of my chub on my belly and hips. Other than the cups being too large for me, it’s a very comfortable bustier. The material is not irritating to the skin and I could see myself wearing this comfortably for extended amounts of time. The care tag states that the bustier should be hand washed only and I assume that the piece should be hung to dry.

Overall, I think it’s an excellent piece as long as you purchase the correct size. I am giving the bustier a 5 out of 5 because as long as you get the right size, you'll love it. I’m hoping to eventually get the size large to see if it fits me better. It’s a comfortable, attractive, inexpensive piece and I would recommend it to others.
