Holiday satin bustier - bustier discontinued by Coquette - review by Breas

The Holiday Satin Bustier by Coquette is available in sizes S-1X/2X. I had purchased the size XL. The bustier arrived on a padded hanger and was surrounded with plastic. The only text or images on the plastic bag was a barcode sticker. There was a cardboard tag attached to the bustier that had a few photos of a model wearing the piece and stated the company name, product name, size, and website. The hanger would be excellent to use to store the bustier when it’s not being worn.

The bustier is 100% polyester, exclusive of trim. The bustier is opaque and not stretchy.
While the bustier is not stretchy, loosening or tightening the lacing down the centre back can adjust the width. There are 4 garter straps attached to the piece when it arrives. The garter straps are detachable. There are 2 black shoulder straps in a small, zip lock style baggy that can be attached to the bustier.



I’ve taken a few measurements of the bustier laying flat. The lacing down the centre back was done up the way it had arrived. There was no gap between the lacing (it was done up tightly). Again, the wearer can add width by loosening that lacing so the measurements of width below are not set in stone. What I really liked about the Holiday Satin Bustier is the lace detailing. It reminds me of the eyelash lace detailing of another bustier by Coquette. It’s absolutely gorgeous! The lace to this piece is on the cups, along the sides, and the lower half of the back of the bustier. The lace in the stock photo isn’t exactly the way it looks on the real thing. In the stock photo, the lace pattern doesn’t meet at the bottom centre like it does on the bustier I had received. I’m not exactly sure why it’s considered a holiday piece though. The hot pink and black colours of the bustier could be worn year round.



There are 2 closures to the bustier. There are 6 metal claps that run down the centre front of the piece and there is the lacing down the centre back. The metal clasps down the centre front are a silver colour and are spaced 1 ½ inches away from each other. The clasp and buttons sit on a metal strip down the centre front of the bustier. The lacing down the centre back is a black ribbon that is approximately ½ of an inch wide. There is no modesty panel beneath the lacing down the centre back so the more you need to loosen the lacing, the more skin will be exposed.

There are a total of 10 flexible, plastic boning pieces to the bustier. There are 4 down the front and 6 down the back of the piece. The shoulder straps are black in colour. There are no decorations to the straps. They are adjustable in length and they are also stretchy. You could always use a different pair of shoulder straps if you wanted to since they the included ones are detachable. Or, you could just not wear shoulder straps at all!

There are 4 detachable garter straps to the bustier: 2 in the front and 2 in the back. They are adjustable in length only with their stretch. When fully stretched, the garter straps measure 13 ¼ inches in length. Each black garter strap has a pretty, hot pink cover to it. The garter piece is a silver coloured metal with a rubber backing. Each garter has a black ribbon covering the area that attaches to the stocking. Stockings are not included with the bustier but you could use any stockings that you may already have.



There are 3 decorative bows made of black ribbon at the front of the bustier. There is one between the cups and the others sit right above the garter straps. The bows are roughly the same size. Each bow has an approximate width of 3 ½ inches and a length of 3 inches. Each of the three bows is detachable from the bustier.

The bows sit on a broach-like pin. They can be moved around on the bustier to a more fitting location or be removed from the bustier if you prefer. There is also a pretty lace trim along the very top of the bustier. It runs along the top of the cups and around to the back of the piece. The trim is approximately 1 ½ inches in length.



The cups are very lightly padded so you don’t need to worry about nipple outline if you were to wear the piece out in public. The cups also have underwire to them. All of the loops to attach the straps, both garter and shoulder, are on the inside of the piece so it won’t look odd if you choose not to wear them. I actually rarely get any use out of garter straps since I typically wear these types of pieces beneath a cardigan while out in public.

I wear a C 38 bra, my hips are 41 ½ inches, I’m 5’6 in height, and I weigh in the high 160’s (the last time I checked). It’s easiest to have someone around to tighten the lacing down the centre back of the bustier when you put it on but you could also do it up yourself. I had tried the bustier on when my partner wasn’t home so I had to do it up by myself. What I usually do in this case is loosen the lacing just a bit and then see if I can do the clasps up down the centre front. If I can’t, I’ll loosen the back just a bit more and continue this until I’m able to do the clasps up.



The bustier fit me quite nicely. The cups could definitely work with a D cup (I’m a C). Since I’m wider, I had to loosen the lacing down the centre back quite a bit. I loosened it so that there was a 5 ½ inch gap between the lacing. There was a bit of lace left so that I could tie it into a bow. This means that if you’re just a bit larger than me, you could fit comfortably as well. Also, you could replace the lace with something longer if everything else works for you (the cups, length, etc) except the width.

Everything was comfortable enough for me to wear the piece for an extended period of time. The only thing that was slightly bothersome was the lace trim at the very top of the piece. When I had worn the bustier without a cardigan, the trim would rub against my upper arms. It wasn’t terrible but it also wasn’t pleasant. The care tag states that the bustier should be hand washed only and hung to dry.

Overall, I’m happy with this bustier. It works perfectly to wear in public but it’s sexy enough to wear in the bedroom. I’ve deducted one star because the trim can be a bit itchy against bare skin. I love that everything is detachable and adjustable. It’s a gorgeous piece and I’d recommend it to others.
