A Kiss with Maximum Potential

For me, the Butterfly Kiss was an excellent introduction to rabbit-type vibrators. I think it would do very well for any other beginners, partially because it helps you explore what you do and don't prefer without leading you into a $100 or more commitment. However, it is lacking in the vibration department, primarily in variety, and it might not work for all anatomy types.

Use

The Butterfly Kiss is a vibe that I've been curious about for months. While other rabbit-type vibrators have been somewhat intimidating to me, I figured that the Butterfly Kiss would be an excellent introduction - it's shorter and thinner than other penetrative rabbit-type vibrators. It's meant for simultaneous G-spot and clitoral stimulation, and the vibrations come primarily from the butterfly clit tickler, but they do somewhat carry through to the bulbed tip. The clitoral stimulator is shaped like a butterfly, with the vibrations carrying most through the wings and tiny antennae.

The Butterfly Kiss is particularly simple and straightforward - it has three settings and no moving bits or otherwise complicated machinery. It takes lubrication very well, and it works perfectly for either solo or partner play. How well it works, however, depends on your anatomy, unfortunately. For those who enjoy clitoral stimulation from above the clit or for those who just have a significant distance between their vaginal opening and clitoris, the Butterfly Kiss might not hit the right spots. The internal portion is very accommodating, however - finding the G-spot is simple due to the nice rounded end and very flexible shaft!

Material / Texture

The Butterfly Kiss is made primarily of TPR with a plastic battery compartment. TPR, or thermoplasticized rubber, is a better and safer alternative to standard rubber or jelly toys, due to the lack of BPA or phthalates. However, it cannot be sanitized easily. If this is a concern for you, or if sharing is a necessity, condoms should be used at all times. Cleanup is as simple as soap and water.

This vibrator takes lube very well - it only needs a small amount to become very slick. Water-based or silicone-based lubes are fine to use. There is a slight rubbery smell, but I can only detect it when the toy is practically up my nose, and I have a strong sense of smell. BE FOREWARNED - have a designated place to keep this toy, like a pouch or case, because it, like all other rubber-based toys, is an absolute lint magnet. A bit harder to keep clean, but the flexibility and affordability of the material is often worth the hassle.

The texture overall is fine for beginners, but it's likely that more discerning users will give it a try and wish it was made of a slightly more quality material.

Design / Shape / Size

The Butterfly Kiss measures at 7" tall, although only half of that is actually usable - the rest is the handle where the batteries and motor are located. There is only about 3" of insertable section, making it rather short for a rabbit vibrator. However, the G-spot stimulator is large enough to make up for that, provided you don't have a very deep G-spot. I liked the little raised hearts on the handle - they added texture for gripping as well as visual interest. The G-spot portion measured at 4" around for me at the widest part.

The shape of the Butterfly Kiss is slightly different from standard rabbit vibes. Rather than concentrating on girth, the insertable portion of the vibrator is shaped for G-spot stimulation, which I really appreciated. The short size makes it less useful with a penetrative motion that simulates sex, but I found that it was long enough to hit my G-spot without much trouble, and it had enough length to create some movement. It won't fill you up, for sure, but it'll very likely hit the G-spot.

The clitoral portion, on the other hand, is a hit or miss. I feel it all depends on where you like to be stimulated. I far prefer vibrations above my clitoris, and I'm usually too sensitive to apply anything directly to my clit. If the Butterfly Kiss had a clit portion that extended juuuust slightly up, I think it would have really done the trick.

Where I got the most pleasure was when I really exercised the flexibility of the toy. When I inserted it and bent it upward, I was able to stretch the butterfly part higher up and get better clit stimulation. At the same time, it caused the G-spot portion to grind in a bit more, making it a better sensation there as well. Don't be afraid to bend it - it has enough quality to it that I feel it can handle it.

The toy is far from discreet - it's pretty obvious what it's used for. However, it's not terribly loud, apart from the highest setting - I found that to be a bit noisy.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Butterfly Kiss takes two AAA batteries, and they're very simple to install. The bottom cap twists off easily, and clicks back into place distinctively so you can be sure it's staying put. It claims to be waterproof, and though I haven't tested it out yet, I feel that the seal is good enough for splashback, but maybe not for immersion. I'm not comfortable enough to try it, at any rate. It can be difficult to tell which way to put the batteries in - it does have a tiny little indicator on the plastic portion, but I missed that at first and spent a few minutes staring at it. It also isn't labeled as taking AAA size batteries, you have to guess a bit if you aren't sure.

There are only three settings, and they're very straightforward - low, medium, high. To change settings, you press the raised button on the base of the toy. When you hold the button in to change it, before it clicks, it stops the toy, which I found distracting while I was using it and experimenting with the settings.

One of the maddening things about the Butterfly Kiss is the vibration locations. When the toy is on the medium setting, it was good enough for my clit, but the G-spot portion could have been stronger. It wasn't vibrating enough for me. However, when I went to the high setting, the clitoral portion was so strong and buzzy that I was afraid it would desensitize me for good - it hurt waaay too much to keep it there. The low setting was pointless, but that may just be me. If there was either a separate vibrator in the tip or a way to carry the vibrations from the clit portion through to the tip, this toy would have been absolute aces for me.

The noise level isn't too bad, except on the highest level. Twice, when I was first playing with the toy, I clicked it to the highest setting and yelped at the sound coming out - it's startling how loud it can be for such a small toy.

Care and Maintenance

As stated previously, TPR isn't particularly hard to care for. However, people who are concerned about bacteria or wanting to share toys will definitely want to use condoms with the Butterfly Kiss. Again, it's a lint magnet - I have a cat, and I have to immediately hide the thing in a towel after cleaning so it doesn't get full of hair on its way to the toy box. I used toy cleaner on it with excellent results, and though there can be some verrry slight stickiness, it's nothing compared to straight jelly toys.

For those who don't have or aren't interested in toy cleaner, simple soap and water will work just fine. I would personally shake off the excess water and let it air dry, as wiping it down with any cloth will likely leave some kind of lint. But that's just personal preference and my own weirdness about fuzzies. :)

I plan on storing it in its own cloth pouch eventually - for now, it's loose in the box, and as a result I usually wipe it down before I use it to get the lint off. It could technically be stored in the package it came in, but it seems a bit pointless to me - a plastic baggie would be just as good.
    • Easy to clean

Packaging

The Butterfly Kiss comes in perhaps the simplest packaging of all - a plastic bag. The instructions included were simply a small slip of paper indicating where to insert the batteries, and that didn't end up being all that helpful in the end even at that - it took trial and error to get them in properly after all. Because of the lack of packaging, the toy came to me slightly bent. That doesn't affect it during use, but it is noticeable visually. I wouldn't ever use it as a gift package, although the vibrator itself might be a nice gift - it's just not prettily packaged at all.

For the price, it's absolutely worth it. I'm already ready for an upgrade, but I'll definitely keep using this toy and experimenting to see what works and what doesn't for me.
