Like the famous Hitachi, the Smart Wand is designed to be used as a body muscle messager, but it can also be used on a persons private parts. Where the Hitachi is a older, more basic messager, with an included plug and heafty weight, the Smart Wand is a modern take on the Hitachi. But it includes a rechargable battery, so no annoying power cord to mess with, and it is made from body safe silicone with a small amount of plastic in the handle. Not only is the silicone softer than the Hitachi's hard plastic, but it is nicer for rubbing against the body, and it can be sterilized. All positives in my book. And without a 5 foot power cord hanging off the end of the Smart Wand, storage in the included pouch is just that much easier, and there is no searching for a power outlet near your play space. It is also travel friendly due to the lock mode, so there are no worries about it turning on while in your checked luggage and getting unnecessary attention.

On Eden Fantasys toy material safety scale, overall the Smart Wand receives an 8 out of 10. While the 8 comes from the small amount of plastic inlaid in the handle, the rest of the toy, most of which comes in contact with the body, receives a perfect 10. The 3 control buttons for the wand are also surrounded by the silicone. The silicone has no texture to it, but it is a matte silicone, so there is some grip when you hold it. My wife didn't complain about the matte silicone being uncomfortable, and she can be quite sensitive. You also have the choice of 3 different silicone colors to satisfy your eyes; plum, black and ivory. Silicone is fantastic for sex toys since it is a 100% non-porous food grade material, which is hypo-allergenic, and is latex and phthalates free.

For both the body massage and vaginal massage, my wife did not need any lubricant. However, if you do choose to use lubricant, I would only recommend water based lube. Silicone lube can degrade silicone toys, making the nice matte silicone surface sticky. If you are really set on using a certain silicone lube, try doing a small patch test towards the bottom of the wand near the recharging port.

For my wife and myself, when I saw and started to read about the Smart Wand, I knew we had to have one. The first wand massager that we tried was the Hitachi. At the time, I liked its price point, how it was capable of producing strong orgasms, but also how it could be used on the rest of the body. The only negative I thought I would experience was the power cord. However, the strength of the Hitachi orgasms were way too strong, and could not even be used for body massage.

Then the Smart Wand came out, and it seemed a lot better than the Hitachi. You are offered 2 different sizes, medium and large, and I choose the medium. You are also offered 3 different colors to satisfy your personal choices; plum, ivory, or black. The medium measures about 8 5/8 inches long, with a 1 1/2 inch diameter head, and it weighs in around 1 lb. Under the head is a groove that allows the head to flex some when against your body. But unlike the Hitachi, there is no large gap to allow fluids or water to enter the inside of the wand. The wand has a slight curve to it that allows easy and comfortable placement in your hand. The only open part of the wand comes at the very bottom opposite the head, where there is a small attachment point for the charger.

The Smart Wand has 3 buttons for its controls, which are located about halfway up the handle. They are +, -, and (). If your Smart Wand is locked when it arrives, you need to press and hold the + and - for 3 seconds. After that, you are able to turn the toy on with the +, and then by continuing to press the +, to cycle through the speed settings available. You can also select 1 of 8 patterns by pressing the (). The first setting is a constant vibration, which is then followed by 7 different patterns. The 1st pattern is just a general on/off pattern, with the 2nd being a quicker on/off, and the 3rd a very quick on/off. The 4th is an escalating pattern, the 5th is like a roller coaster up the power, then smoothly back down. The 6th is a faster roller coaster, and the 7th and final is just general pandemonium.







There is also an option for what Lelo calls the Sensetouch technology, which automatically reduces the toys power when it is not against the skin. This allows for a quick reduction in noise, along with saving some of your battery power. To activate this mode, you press the () button for 3 seconds. Then when in contact with your body, it vibrates at your selected setting. Once the sensors in the wands head detects that it is not in contact with your body, it automatically reduces power. Once skin contact is detected, it takes about 3 seconds for the wand the resume your previously selected power setting.

The Smart Wand takes about 2 hours to charge. While charging, there are lights behind the control buttons that flash on and off, and will remain steady once the charging is complete. Depending on your power setting, the wand should last about 2 hours on a single charge.





The vibrations patterns and strengths available with the Smart Wand are numerous and should be able to satisfy almost everyone out there. The only people that might not be satisfied are those who are only able to orgasm with the jackhammer strength of the Hitachi's high setting. The vibrations are concentrated in the head, but depending on your setting of choice, will travel down the toy some to where you hold it. For me on a medium strength constant pattern, it did ever so slightly numb my hand. Maybe numb is too strong of a word, it was more like if I didn't have a firm grip on the wand, that it would dance around in my hand. The vibrations are nice, deep rumbly vibrations. And even on the higher power settings, the wand does not need sheets, music, and a closed door to have its noise concealed.

Silicone is a very safe material for a sex toy, especially when sharing between partners. It receives a perfect 10 on the Eden Fantasys material safety scale. Typically for silicone, you can use warm water and antibacterial soap, a toy cleaner, a 10% bleach solution, boil it for 3 minutes, or place it in the top rack of the dishwasher. However, a few of those options of cleaning are eliminated because of the motor inside of this toy. You should not boil or place this in the dishwasher, because that can damage the motor.

For a typical cleaning for our purposes, my wife and I will just use antibacterial soap and warm water. Lelo says that the Smart Wand is waterproof, but due to the recharging port, I don't completely believe this. So when cleaning, I just soap up and rinse the top 3/4 of the wand, and do my best to keep the recharging port dry. After it is cleaned, we towel dry it off, then place it back in its nice black satin draw string pouch for storage. I like this small pouch since the toy is protected from lint and dust, and it doesn't have to be placed inside of a larger bag or box where it can get lost or forgotten.

The Smart Wand comes in a fairly large package, which measures 4.25 by 2.25 by 13 inches. It has a picture of the wand and a woman in a robe on the front, 6 points of information about the toy on the top, and more detailed information on the backside. On the back are 3 more images of the woman using the toy as advertised, as a body massager.

Inside is a hard white box, which holds the wand in a hard foam surround, with the booklets of information, charger, and small bag for the wand all inside. After pulling out the wand I saw the booklets tucked underneath it. I couldn't see a way to get the booklets out otherwise, so I started pulling on the foam surround. Eventually it came out, but was slightly damaged from my pulling. I then saw that the booklets had just slid out of there normal storage area on the right side of the box.

You could use the packaging for storage, especially if you hadn't pulled on it like I had, but I prefer to just store it in its black drawstring pouch, and just place it where it is easy to grab at a quick moments notice.

When my wife first saw this, she was excited about it. After our failure with the Hitachi, I was a little nervous to try something like this again. But ultimately it was a good decision to do so. We used this first for back message on my wife, and she loved it. She required a higher power setting, but it worked nicely to relax her sore muscles on her back and neck. Afterwards I used it to warm her up vaginally, and this also worked for her. For this she needed a lower setting, but neither time did we have to use the last setting, whether highest or lowest, for her to get pleasure from the Smart Wand. Holding it for the 15 minutes or so of message just slightly numbed my hand, but nothing that I would really complain about. After we used this a second time, without being asked my wife said she would give it an A+++. I guess that means 5 stars, so we have a winner!
