UK scientists have launched Pornography Research Online, a project aimed at determining “the everyday uses of pornography, and how the people who use it feel it fits into their lives.”
In the past, the researchers say, pornography has overwhelmingly been assumed to be a ‘problem’, and the only really important questions to ask about it have been—how much do people (and especially children) encounter it, and how great is the ‘harm’ that it does?
Not this time. Researcher Clarissa Smith told The Register that as far as she’s concerned, most prior research into the use and availability of porn are deeply flawed. “When it comes to the public discussion of sex there’s a lot that’s wrong. The main problem is misinformation, with biased sources spreading information that is at best poorly researched and at worst completely incorrect," she said.
So we took the survey. Maybe you’ll want to, too, and let us know what you think? You can find it here.
