How do vaginas work?

Contributor: TheParrishism TheParrishism
I have never been penetrated or anything with that area. My boyfriend and I were playing around and he was looking and he said something didn't seem right, like there was a bone or something over the hole. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

Air build up in vagina
Have you ever had so much air build up in your vagina while having sex that you had to stop to let it all out? Is it painful or just uncomfortable?

If you've never been penetrated by anything, it's more than likely the hymen. Hymens come in all shapes and sizes, and can seem very strange looking if you've never seen one before. Here's a link for more information about hymens and even some drawings of a few different types of hymens.

Are we talking looking at it or feeling ?

Because with feeling, he might just be feeling the pubic bone, which is indeed located in the area. Anatomical Drawing.

The drawing makes it look far apart, but it's pretty typical, I think, to be able to feel it even when entering the vagina. A lot of people talk about getting toys like the Ella "hooked" on it - to give you an idea of the shape.

Yes I know that if I feel around down there I can feel the bone on three sides (just not the side toward my anus). That is normal, take a glance at a pelvic bone online and observe the shape and you will see why.

A hymen is a membrane; it's unlikely that anyone would mistake it for a bone. If you're thin it's possible he's feeling the pelvic bones behind and around the mons pubis.

Maybe a mirror and some "Self examination" is what you need. It's a great way to get to know your body and then you can see what he is talking about.

Depending on the position you were in while he was playing with you, it could've been your hymen or your pubic bone, in certain positions the pubic bone will close off your vaginal opening a bit more. I definitely notice this when changing positions without pulling out during sex, leaning certain ways will feel super uncomfortable because of the pubic bone. Has he ever been with a female before, as in, does he know what a healthy vagina looks like?
Have you ever penetrated yourself with your fingers? If so, did it feel tight? You might have a microperforated hymen, or sometimes females are born with vaginas that are too tight for normal penetration, or if it feels like a lump, it could be a cyst. I'm assuming you haven't had a pelvic exam before? It might be a good idea to go get checked out if something seems abnormal.

My personal guess is that it was your pubic bone. Mine can easily be felt during play.

Sounds like your pelvic bone. If you are concerned about it make an appointment with an OB GYN. And talk to them about it. However, it sounds completely normal. All vaginas are shaped different. I can feel my pelvic bone. I have to be careful what toys I use because of my pelvic bone. You might be the same.

I am not to concerned about it. It was just weird because he is very experienced with vaginas and he got confused. Granted, it has been a while for him, but odd none the less.
