The Snooze Button

Contributor: Lady Venus Lady Venus
When you set your alarm clock, do you set it early knowing that you can hit the snooze button for some extra sleep? Or do you set it precisely at a time you need to get up?

I think I've hit snooze once in my life. I may not want to get up, but I get up right away every day regardless. Thats just how I've always been.

My Man gets up shortly after 4:00 in the morning. He's my alarm. He usually gets into the tub, then turns on the Jacuzzi (if his alarm doesn't wake me up, that damn Jacuzzi will) and then takes a shower etc. Then he usually comes back to bed. (But, not to sleep.)

I am usually up from the time he gets up. Once in a while I fall back asleep, so I do set an alarm. I have to make sure our littlest child gets off to school. I hate the days when I just can't get out of bed, like yesterday.

My Man rarely stays in bed late. Even on the weekend he's up and out of bed by 7 or so. I can sometimes bribe him with extra sex to stay in bed a little longer, but he wasn't ever allowed to sleep in as a child, so he thinks the entire world should be up and out of bed by 6:00 at the latest.

I set my alarm to go off 20 minutes before I have to get up, and I hit snooze the whole time. My husband will normally get up right when the alarm goes off, and often wakes up before it goes off anyway.

I always set my alarm for 20 minutes before I absolutely have to get up that way I can hit the snooze 2 times before getting up!

I have a really erratic work schedule, so it depends on when I have to get up. If I need to get up at, say, 5 am, I'll just set it for that time and sometimes hit snooze once or twice when it goes off anyway. On days I don't have to get up until later I'll set it 30 minutes ahead so I can hit snooze if I feel like it.

I have 2 alarm clocks. Until one breaks, I set one an hour early so I can wake up and have a nice nap time. Yes, I'm weird.

I'm kinda weird I usually wake up about 15 minutes before my alarm goes off and I just lay there until my alarm goes off. I'll usually press the snooze button once or twice and then get up. I like laying in bed for awhile before I get up because I like to mentally prepare for the day.

When I had a roomate though I would get up as soon as my alarm went off because I didn't want to annoy them with my alarm going off all morning.

I use my iPhone as my alarm and I have alarms set for 15 minute increments for an hour before I have to get up.
It's pathetic...

I'll set my alarm early, not to snooze, but so I'll have plenty of time to get ready. Sometimes I like to dilly-dally. If I don't use this extra time for dilly-dallying then I use it for snoozing.

I set my alarm 40 minutes early, then when I wake up I usually set it for 40 minutes later and go back to sleep. (Why 40? For whatever reason, it works well for me. Any more or less and I end up being even sleepier than if I hadn't slept the extra 40 minutes.)

Sometimes I don't set a second alarm, because I'm awake at the first one. But that's only once a week or so.

Using the actual snooze button, which gives you 10 minutes or whatever just makes me annoyed and cranky, and doesn't really let me get any useful sleep. That's why I voted for both the first option and the "other" option ... I set my alarm early, but never use the actual snooze button.

Even after I wake up, it pretty much always takes me about 20 minutes before I get out of bed. It takes a while after waking up before my eyes are ready to work properly.

If I;m lucky enough to sleep until the alarm, I pop up right away.
It's rare that I sleep until the alarm though.

I am a serial snoozer. I set 3 alarms because I am NOT a morning person and have a tendency to fall back asleep. When the 3rd emergency alarm goes off, I usually jump out of bed and start racing around the house. I hate mornings.

I use my phone and set two alarms. The first is an hour earlier from when I absolutely have to get up. If I get up at that time, I'm able to accomplish a lot more before I have to rush to class. My next alarm is a half hour after that, which is my preferred time to wake up. Often I turn off the first alarm and go back to sleep, and hit snooze on the second one once or twice.

If I don't get up at exactly 6 every morning, the rest of the day is just destroyed. It's like an obsessive compulsive thing.

LOL I do something very similar, but I set mine in 5 minute increments. I usually set 3 of them.

I had to choose more than one cause it varies for me. I usually set it precisely and get up prompty (I'm good like that). But on ocassion I snooze because I'm exhausted (I'd say about 15% of the time lately). And, unfortunately, it's become a growing habit that I wake up prior to my alarm because of my dog or loud people with no courtesy at 5am!!!
