Huge fear of glass toys.

Contributor: missymery missymery
I've been looking at the "Gold Laced G" FOREVER now, and I just want to buy it so badly, but. Glass scares me so much. I'm sure it won't break, unless I toss it around like a football on concrete, but. What if it scratches? Can you REALLY see a scratch? Sometimes I don't see scratches in glass of that color, so I'm worried senseless that I won't notice.

Any tips on checking for scratches?

Have you ever gotten a glass toy that was scratched when it arrived?

What I do with my glass toys is this: first, I inspect it visually. If I don't see any problems, I run my hand over it, inch by inch. (If your hands are callused, you might want to, instead, run it over your forearm or the center of your palm.)

I figure that if it's not cutting my hand, it won't cut any other part of me.

That being said, I've never gotten a scratched toy, before. I've had them arrive broken, but as you can see in Tim's video, pyrex is pretty tough stuff, especially if you store it properly.

So it's pretty evident when the toy is scratched?

yes, you should be able to see and/or feel the scratch.

It would be more of a crack than a scratch, and would be VERY evident. I've used Pyrex in the kitchen forever, and have many glass toys (most of which I probably don't take as good of care as I ought to), and haven't had any issues.

Just don't take it from one extreme to the other (i.e. from freezer to oven), and don't intentionally drop it from high places onto hard surfaces. Unless you have a vagina o' steel, it just won't break.

If you're so worried about it, get something that you won't lose big bucks on if it does break, and see how it holds up to abuse.

This is exactly right. It would be more of a crack, and when Pyrex cracks, you can see it. (But I've also done the inch by inch check mentioned in another post upthread, just to be sure.) It is simply one of the safest materials you can use for a dildo. But I agree, maybe start with a cheaper one (SSA Glass has a lot of really nice ones at lower prices) and then you'll see how it lasts. That should build your confidence in what a great material it is.

When I first heard about glass dildos I thought it was strange and scary too. But glass feels wonderful. Everyone has given great advice. The Deep Water G feels amazing. It's my favorite glass toy. The Bent Graduate and Amethyst seem to be a favorite here.

If it helps, my Gold Laced G is my oldest toy and most used. While I am careful with it, it does get dropped in the sink from time to time.

Kindred had a plug (Icicles no.14 arrive with a crack/scratch in the handle and from the picture is was very noticeable. You can see it here

I have an ever expanding collection of glass toys and I've never gotten one that has been scratched, that being said any flaws are very easily noticed with glass either by feel or by looking alone.

Don't be scared of glass, it's a great material for toys and they are probably the most visually stimulating too boot.

I was really in the same boat as you. When I first joined EF, they had the Kissa as the EdenFriends gift. I was excited by the style until I saw it was made of glass. After that, the only reason I got it was because, to be honest, it was free.

But it's so different than anything else I've ever tried... Since then, I've started a bit of a collection. I now have three others (the Glass Wand, Rainbow Heart, and Amber Wave), and it keeps expanding. It's become my favorite material.

I've found it more durable than anything else I own, and the feel is the best. I don't think I can really go back to other toys now because of it. (Well, maybe I can, but I really prefer glass.)

You can do it, and you'll be happy you did!!

I've also had my eye on the Gold Laced G... I want that so bad.

I think you'll be safe as long as you do inspect it carefully before using it!

I am more anxious about getting hurt by a glass toy, thanks to my first glass being Kissa and how painful that sucker was to insert.

They're pretty safe. If you feel so strongly about it.. just be sure to inspect it before use. Look at it and feel it. If you dont see it you might be able to feel it

I got interested in glass when I was composing a post for my Polish blog that has links to best priced quality toys. I search out bargains and gems like Tantus. I fell in love with Shiny Orglassm and since I've already found a place that sold it for less than $20...

Tip: always put a towel or a plastic bowl in the sink when you're washing. Dish washing liquid works better than soap but you have to rinse it completely. Dry and shine with a clean towel.
